Historia
Claire Eiffel, the beautiful, brilliant eldest daughter of the illustrious architect Gustave Eiffel, is doted upon with an education envied by many sons of the upper classes, and entirely out of the reach of most daughters. Claire’s idyllic childhood ends abruptly when, at fourteen, her mother passes away. It’s soon made clear that Gustave expects Claire to fill her mother’s place as caregiver to the younger children and as manager of their home.

Pleasant read
Revisado: 10-01-24
This was a nice story as are all of Aimee Runyan’s. I wish, though, that contemporary authors would stop assuming that their female historic characters were all closet feminists. The intrusion of our twenty-first century issues into historical fiction is getting to be very tiresome. What’s wrong with a woman who simply enjoys taking care of her family’s needs and does’t feel the desire to make a name for herself?

Another great Wingate story
Revisado: 06-23-24
I really enjoyed the story of the elf children and the overall plight of the orphans, both white and Indian. I really enjoyed Jenna Lamia's narration; she is one of the best narrators in the industry. I really did not enjoy the Park Ranger's twenty-first century portion of the story. I think if it was necessary to have dual timelines, then it would have been better to have t,he adult Nessa tell that portion . I also did not like the narrator for the park ranger. Her voice kept sinking lower to tha point that I wanted to tell her to sit up and speak up for goodness sake!

Riveting
Revisado: 06-09-24
This was my first book by this author and I will definitely read his others. The story was very believable and well written. The only complaint I have is that it was much too long. The explicit torture scenes could have been reduced drastically and a lot of the tension was drawn out for too long. I think this fifteen hour book could have been sufficient at ten hours.

Revisado: 03-25-24
I loved this story with one caveat; Toggling back and forth between three characters and time periods was difficult to follow. I wish we didn’t have that trend and could just follow a story chronologically from start to finish.

I liked the story with its myriad cast of characters. The narrator was absolutely terrible, however. She raced through the book and her voices were a bit conrived.I think I would have enjoyed it better if I read it and not listened to it as a result.
