Men’s control over the women they claim to love …
Revisado: 12-23-23
I’m the age Beth would be … believe me I had friends from households where the fathers ruled … there oftentimes was also drinking involved… this told a story that I could really relate to … and confirmed my understanding of just how strong my own mother was … She would give my father a look that put him where he belonged and go ahead with her plan whatever it was …I walk while I listen … sometimes going for hours as my interest is grabbed … I will start my next novel by this Author today ..,

A tale untold
Revisado: 03-04-23
I often found it confusing about Bricks age … he was written as “old” when he wasn’t even 60 … this athlete who worked a physical job couldn’t get off the steps???
I found Ellie interesting and a total contradiction of my own mother in approximately the same time period .., why not make Riley Gay that would have really tested Brick who I disliked from the very beginning of the tale .., I would have liked him to have come of age … my own father faced some of Bricks challenges and in the “adult”last fifty years of his life grew and faced his own demons and prejudices head on … he gained my admiration and love as an adult child …

Historia
For decades, the specter of homosexuality haunted Washington. The mere suggestion that a person might be gay destroyed reputations, ended careers, and ruined lives. At the height of the Cold War, fear of homosexuality became intertwined with the growing threat of international communism, leading to a purge of gay men and lesbians from the federal government. In the fevered atmosphere of political Washington, the secret “too loathsome to mention” held enormous, terrifying power.

Humbling aMx enchanting…,
Revisado: 01-02-23
This production is humbling at the least when I listen to these books, and the holocaust and the horrors these people went through and yet they all sound reasons to smile, and to go on… This book is really really very good… I walk three and four hours a day and listen to these novels, so Miles go under my feet… Maybe they will be a second novel about Eliana Eleonora excuse me I highly recommend this read

Historia
Born under different stars—Mungo a Protestant and James a Catholic—they should be sworn enemies if they’re to be seen as men at all. Their environment is a hyper-masculine and sectarian one, for gangs of young men and the violence they might dole out dominate the Glaswegian estate where they live. And yet against all odds Mungo and James become best friends as they find a sanctuary in the pigeon dovecote that James has built for his prize racing birds.

Shuggie’s mother Agnes walks a wayward path: She is Shuggie’s guiding light but a burden for him and his siblings. She dreams of a house with its own front door while she flicks through the pages of the Freemans catalogue, ordering a little happiness on credit, anything to brighten up her grey life. Married to a philandering taxi-driver husband, Agnes keeps her pride by looking good - her beehive, make-up, and pearly-white false teeth offer a glamourous image of a Glaswegian Elizabeth Taylor.
