Historia
In the 1830s, a young naturalist called Charles Darwin set out as part of a survey expedition on the HMS Beagle. Darwin collected fossils and different species of plants and animals, and made many detailed observations that inspired him to develop what once seemed an absolutely crazy idea - a theory that would change the world.

Good overview, but who cares about the creationist controversy
Revisado: 08-28-24
I enjoyed the information, but felt that the ending, referring to creationist controversy, was a distraction from the subject matter, and any additional time could have been used to demonstrate more useful concepts.

Historia
The complex ecosystem of the Amazon covers an area about the size of the continental US. Approximately one of every four flowering plant species on earth resides in the Amazon. A single Amazonian river may contain more fish species than all the rivers in Europe combined. The rain forest, which contains approximately 390 billion trees, plays a vital role in stabilizing the global climate by absorbing massive amounts of carbon dioxide - or releasing it into the atmosphere if the trees are destroyed.

Prioritizes foreign interests and politics
Revisado: 03-17-24
The book has a fair amount of detail regarding Amazonia, but focuses too heavily on foreign interests in the region and the implications of [insufficient] political response, taking up the majority of the book for cautionary tale and lore.

Historia
For David Goggins, childhood was a nightmare--poverty, prejudice, and physical abuse colored his days and haunted his nights. But through self-discipline, mental toughness, and hard work, Goggins transformed himself from a depressed, overweight young man with no future into a US Armed Forces icon and one of the world's top endurance athletes. The only man in history to complete elite training as a Navy SEAL, Army Ranger, and Air Force tactical air controller, he went on to set records in numerous endurance events.

Don’t listen to the naysayers
Revisado: 09-03-21
If you want a better life, you probably need to change yourself. David provides a prime example of what it means to change yourself. He’s a Black Swan, so you don’t have to go and do exactly what he did. But his lessons are universal and his drive is unmatched. If you want to become better, you have to do whatever it takes to get there.
No excuses, no crutches. Self-motivate. Challenge yourself every day. Get after it. The banter adds depth, and he explains why he doesn’t narrate the book himself - he’s not the hero, it’s a layout of his life for the sake of example. You need to be your own hero. And if you don’t like the book’s foul language, get over it. Stay hard.
