Historia
In 1965 Manhattan, patrons flock to Masha’s to savor its brisket bourguignon and impeccable service and to admire its dashing owner and head chef Peter Rashkin, the most eligible bachelor in town. But Peter does not care for the parade of eligible women who come to the restaurant hoping to catch his eye. Running Masha’s consumes him, as does his terrible guilt over surviving the horrors of the Nazi death camp while his wife, Masha - the restaurant’s namesake - and two young daughters perished. Then exquisitely beautiful June Bouquet, an up-and-coming young model, appears at the restaurant, piercing Peter’s guard.

Spellbinding and deeply moving
Revisado: 11-24-19
I’m always hoping for an audiobook that will make me miss my exit as I’m driving, and this was one of those books! At first blush, the story is about a NY chef who is reeling from the deaths of his wife and daughters. But the reader is in for a few surprises, and more than a few big questions: What does it mean to love someone? What is the price of loyalty? And which family is lost, exactly... The ones who died, or the ones who can’t seem to live? Loved it. Gripping from beginning to end.

Historia
Daisy is a girl coming of age in LA in the late '60s, sneaking into clubs on the Sunset Strip, sleeping with rock stars, and dreaming of singing at the Whisky a Go Go. The sex and drugs are thrilling, but it’s the rock and roll she loves most. By the time she’s 20, her voice is getting noticed, and she has the kind of heedless beauty that makes people do crazy things. Also getting noticed is The Six, a band led by the brooding Billy Dunne.

Unique!

This was the first time I’d heard an audio book with a mixed cast of narrators. The actors did an EXCELLENT job. I really felt like I was eavesdropping on a bunch of rock stars. Fun!

Historia
Browsing an antiques shop in Wiltshire, Alison Bannister stumbles across a delicate old portrait - identified as the doomed Tudor queen Anne Boleyn. Except Alison knows better. The subject is Mary Seymour, the daughter of Katherine Parr, who was taken to Wolf Hall in 1557 and presumed dead after going missing as a child. And Alison knows this because she, too, lived at Wolf Hall and knew Mary...more than 400 years ago.

Such a great story that combines two of my favorite things: historical fiction and magic! So imaginative. A fun read.

Historia
The Nightingale tells the stories of two sisters, separated by years and experience, by ideals, passion and circumstance, each embarking on her own dangerous path toward survival, love, and freedom in German-occupied, war-torn France—a heartbreakingly beautiful novel that celebrates the resilience of the human spirit and the durability of women. It is a novel for everyone, a novel for a lifetime.

A masterpiece
Revisado: 05-31-18
If you only read one book this year, let this be the one. Full disclosure: I actually bought The Nightingale by accident. I was looking for a book called The Goldfinch, and got my bird names mixed up. 😀 Best mistake I ever made. This was one of the most challenging, wonderful, difficult, and entertaining stories I have have ever read. It really shines a light on the hidden contributions of so many brave women during World War II. I can’t recommend it highly enough. The narrator’s performance was also excellent.

Historia
When editor Susan Ryeland is given the manuscript of Alan Conway's latest novel, she has no reason to think it will be much different from any of his others. After working with the best-selling crime writer for years, she's intimately familiar with his detective, Atticus Pünd, who solves mysteries disturbing sleepy English villages. An homage to queens of classic British crime such as Agatha Christie and Dorothy Sayers, Alan's traditional formula has proved hugely successful.

What made the experience of listening to Magpie Murders the most enjoyable?
A novel within a novel; a mystery within a mystery. Magpie Murders was a fun and unique read! Highly recommended.
