Historia
In the number-one New York Times best seller Mindhunter, John Douglas, who headed the FBI"s elite Investigative Support Unit, told the story of his brilliant and terrifying career tracking down some of the most heinous criminals in history. Now, in Journey into Darkness, Douglas profiles vicious serial killers, rapists, and child molesters. He is straightforward, blunt, often irreverent, and outspoken, but takes pains not to glorify any of these murderers.

Excellent Writing
Revisado: 05-19-24
Probably one of his best books, unfortunately taken down a notch by the narration. The narrator is talented, but not suitable for this particular book. His voice brought a frailty to an otherwise robust story. Overall, still a solid 4 stars.

As a fan of Anne, I was excited to listen to this new retelling. I was not doing! Incredibly well-done, great talent, and perfect accompanying music; probably one of the best versions out.

Historia
Jennette McCurdy was six years old when she had her first acting audition. Her mother’s dream was for her only daughter to become a star, and Jennette would do anything to make her mother happy. So she went along with what Mom called “calorie restriction." She endured extensive at-home makeovers while Mom chided, “Your eyelashes are invisible, okay? You think Dakota Fanning doesn’t tint hers?” She was even showered by Mom until age sixteen while sharing her diaries, email, and all her income. In I’m Glad My Mom Died, Jennette recounts all this in unflinching detail.

Historia
David Player has spent 30 years trying to forget the traumas of his childhood. The threats, the kidnappings, the murders. The imagined curses of a people born centuries earlier, passed from father to son, mother to daughter, generation to generation. Its climax came in human form, a monster of a man, one of the most notorious serial killers the nation has ever seen: Pee Wee Gaskins. And Gaskins had a particular hatred for the Player family, then for David, himself, who barely escaped those years with his own life intact.

Great Story, But...

...the narration was too mellow, soothing, and low key for this particular tale. I loved the writing, and the style, however the narration style didn"t fit the book. Still definitely worth the listen!

Amazing
Revisado: 10-12-21
I have been reading King books most of my life, and I tend to like the creepy style more than the tamer dramatic books. However, this is easily one of the best stories he has written. Don"t be turned away by the description of the narration, it was subtle, nuanced, and fit the story perfectly. I listened almost non-stop and could have eagerly listened to more. This is going on my list of top 5 Stephen King books!

When producer Ira Rosen walked into the 60 Minutes offices in June 1980, he knew he was about to enter television history. His career catapulted him to the heights of TV journalism, breaking some of the most important stories in TV news. But behind the scenes was a war room of clashing producers, anchors, and the most formidable 60 Minutes figure: legendary correspondent Mike Wallace.

Historia
In 1692, Bridget Bishop was hanged as a witch. Two hundred years later, her legacy lives on in the scions of two very different lines: one dedicated to using their powers to heal and help women in need; the other, determined to grasp power for themselves by whatever means necessary. This clash will play out in the fate of Annis, a young woman in Gilded Age New York who finds herself a pawn in the family struggle for supremacy. She"ll need to claim her own power to save herself - and resist succumbing to the darkness that threatens to overcome them all.

I have to say, I haven"t enjoyed a book this much in years. The perfect bit of fiction to distract my mind, and wrap me in its excellent story. This is super well-written, with the proper amount of excitement, romance, and witchiness. Narration is just right, and the whole production flowed just so. A refreshing break from my normal non-fiction routine. Try it, you won"t regret it!
