Historia
We all experience moments when God's love and presence are tangible. But we also experience feeling utterly abandoned by God. Why? The answer is found when you take a deep look at the other important relationships in your life and understand your attachment style. Through his years working in trauma recovery programs, extensive research into attachment science, and personal experiences with spiritual striving and abuse, licensed therapist Krispin Mayfield has learned to answer the question: Why do I feel so far from God?

Helpful to understand and relateable. I found that the authors understanding of the way things are to be extremely comforting and aiding me in the reality of understanding those internally and externally that God loves me.

I loved how subtle everything was and even though there were some cliches, the story and the character development just kept me ever so interested. I thoroughly recommend it.

Challenging to me
Revisado: 10-29-21
This book has challenged my understanding of the love of God for me and what it means to experience and enjoy it as well as to bestow it upon those who need it. I think I really need to understand better the love of God for me, and something about this book and its author have challenged me to believe that maybe God loves me more than I'm aware.
I was also very intrigued about the premise of the book, because the return of the Prodigal Son painting by Rembrandt is the centerpiece of what the book is about regarding Henry's spiritual journey and transformation. I'm pleased to see this progression in his life, based on a piece of art the Lord God saw fit to have made, because I too enjoy God's loving kindness through art, prticularly music of orchestral nature. It pleases me to know I'm not alone in this understanding of God's love for me as he whispers into my ear His love through music and now, Henry Nouwen's book.

Historia
One misty evening, Jennings Michael Burch's mother, too sick to care for him, left her eight-year-old son at an orphanage with the words, "I'll be right back." She wasn't.... Shuttled through a bleak series of foster homes, orphanages, and institutions, Jennings never remained in any of them long enough to make a friend. Instead, he clung to a tattered stuffed animal named Doggie, his sole source of comfort in a frightening world. Here, in his own words, Jennings Michael Burch reveals the abuse and neglect he experienced during his lost childhood.

One of my favorite books in high school
Revisado: 09-30-19
This book, and Goodnight Mister Tom by Michelle Magorian were some of my top favorite books as a child in high school and as an adult now. Coming from a difficult childhood myself, I found love in these books that I didn't really find anywhere else. This book is a cherished memory. I'm so glad they finally have it on Audible.

Listened to over and over again. Love everything about the book and its presentation. The only other book that rides the heights like this one, for me, is The Man Without A Face by Isabelle Holland. And there's no audio book for that one, have to read it the old fashioned way lol.

Historia
This book essentially launched the memoir craze that has been going strong ever since. The story is pretty grim: teen-aged Wolff moves with his divorced mother from Florida to Utah to Washington State to escape her violent boyfriend. When she remarries, Wolff finds himself in a bitter battle of wills with his abusive stepfather, a contest in which the two prove to be more evenly matched than might have been supposed.

troubled childhood story
Revisado: 08-08-18
I had a great difficulty finishing this book. I'm reading it for class otherwise I would have given up on it way before. the boy in the story is very troubled, though probably typical for American culture, but I still struggling to see how he got away with all kinds of mischief and bad things. I'm not sure what lessons he learned, or what all he took from it. But it's a story alright, and it's Tobias wolf's. PS, I thought the narration was rather dull and left something to be desired.

Wonderfully engaging and articulately written.
Revisado: 07-23-16
I loved that there was scripture in this book! You don't see that in fictional literature very often, let alone children/young adult fiction. The story kept me going and the way L'Engle described things made even the impossible to understand comprehensible enough to keep moving forward and enjoying the story.
