Historia
Rosie Perez first caught our attention with her fierce dance in the title sequence of Do the Right Thing and has since defined herself as a funny and talented actress who broke boundaries for Latinas in the film industry. What most people would be surprised to learn is that the woman with the big, effervescent personality has a secret straight out of a Dickens novel. At the age of three, Rosie’s life was turned upside down when her mentally ill mother tore her away from the only family she knew and placed her in a Catholic children’s home in New York’s Westchester County.

Thank you Rosie
Revisado: 03-25-15
Would you consider the audio edition of Handbook for an Unpredictable Life to be better than the print version?
Absolutely. Just hearing Rosie imitate all of the different voices makes the book more entertaining while still gut wrenching.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Handbook for an Unpredictable Life?
I cheered when she slapped the piss out of Sister Renata.
Which character – as performed by Rosie Perez – was your favorite?
Tia. Ga ga ga ga
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Yes I laughed and cried in buckets.
Any additional comments?
Thank you Rosie. I learned that being able to function "normally" in society as an adult doesn't mean that the abuse doesn't matter. It matters and must be addressed. Just because people can't see your scars don't mean you ain't got em. Here's to continued healing for us all.

Historia
The two-time Emmy Award-winning actress has written her first book, a surprisingly raw and triumphant memoir that is outrageous, moving, sweet, tragic, and heartbreakingly honest. Guts is a true triumph - a memoir that manages to be as frank and revealing as Augusten Burroughs, yet as hilarious and witty as David Sedaris.

Hilariously Cringeworthy
Revisado: 10-16-12
What made the experience of listening to Guts the most enjoyable?
Kristen's honesty and humor in telling a very dark and chilling tale.
What other book might you compare Guts to and why?
I'd compare it to Tina Fey's 'Bossypants' because of the delight of hearing it read by the author in such a humorous, lively way. Also, 'A Piece of Cake' by Cupcake Brown because of the unflinching honesty.
Which scene was your favorite?
Her describing a colostomy bag as 'something people wear when their butts fall off,' made me choke with laughter.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes! I listen while sewing, so I got a lot done.
Any additional comments?
Kristen, you're a trip. You're good at what you do. You deserve your success. Be well.

Historia
There are shelves of memoirs about overcoming the death of a parent, childhood abuse, rape, drug addiction, miscarriage, alcoholism, hustling, gangbanging, near-death injuries, drug dealing, prostitution, or homelessness. Cupcake Brown survived all these things before she'd even turned 20.

The best book I've ever listened to
Revisado: 07-10-06
I can't say enough positive things about this book.
Cupcake Brown's story is one I'll never forget. It's hard-core honest. For me, the brutality was sometimes hard to listen to (I had to take a lot of breaks in the beginning). The things she went through, no child should ever have to endure.
I totally enjoyed her style of writing. Cupcake's sense of humor tickled me. As flawed and tragic as she was, many of her antics throughout the book made me scream with laughter. Redemption comes at the end, and I cried like a baby.
The narrator, Bahni Turpin, is very expressive and she did this story incredible justice. She performed it to a "T".
This book is well worth 2 credits and in fact, I'm going to purchase it in print.
If you like memoirs, and cussing doesn't offend you too much, this is a keeper.

Historia
The Myth of You and Me, the story of Cameron and Sonia's friendship, as intense as any love affair, and its dramatic demise, captures the universal sense of loss and nostalgia that often lingers after the end of an important relationship. Searingly honest, beautiful, and full of fragile urgency, The Myth of You and Me is a celebration and portrait of a friendship that will appeal to anyone who still feels the absence of that first true friend.

A love story about straight girlfriends
Revisado: 10-31-05
It's a really good contemporary story. The pain of losing one's childhood friends for whatever reason is very real. I played it while cleaning a room and the time went by quickly. I reccommend it.
