This is an interesting audiobook about evolution and extinction of dinosaurs, and some interesting facts such as their physical features, their strengths, how they changed overtime, their habits and habitats. It was a good journey and the way it was narrated was good. Would have been even better to know the few more details about the species, at least the most known ones, however, I understand that this is too short of an audiobook for such details and this is more like a short overview of dinosaurs. Overall, it’s a quick listen and I’ll surely listen to it again.

This book, A Beautiful Poison by Lydia Kang was in kindle library for many years and finally read and listened to it and the story was quite unexpected. The story is back in the days of World War I and also surrounding the pandemic of Spanish influenza, (which so reminded me of the COVID19) and of three friends, Allene, Birdie and Jasper. It’s a complex mystery especially with people around dying mysteriously. Ultimately, the puzzle is solved though the part about radium isn’t part of actual story but an add on at the end. Including that part at the end would have given much more closure to the story and I would have increased my rating. I feel sad for Birdie and Holly though more so for Birdie. At least the ending is alright for Allene and Jasper.

Throughout the book, the author’s love for chemistry has been evident and that was indeed new and interesting. 1900s were so different from 2000s and it’s interesting for me to understand how life was back then, in general, and that was one good thing about the book. Would have really liked it if things really ended well for Birdie as well. Feel sad for all those people who were affected by radium. It is actually a shame that so much comes into human life, in the name of inventions, discoveries and modernization, the chemicals and all sorts of things, and some people end up paying price for rest of the humanity no matter which century because humans always lack the right understanding and only seem to learn mostly by trial and error! Hope things change in future and hope there are better ways to learn and understand the effect of something so dangerous as radium on human health and environment. I am happy at least now health and environment are important concerns unlike in the past centuries.

Also, there is a certain earnestness that Lydia Kang was able express for the main characters. Appreciate her effort. Overall, I will not forget this book so easily though I will probably not read or listen to it again for all the gloom (obviously, it’s a murder mystery!). The narration by Saskia Maarleveld was a pretty good.

I was all ears at the beginning of Pulling Your Own Strings by Wayne W. Dyer. It really intrigued my interest and attention. And, somewhere, by the mid of the book, I lost it all! I personally believe in assertiveness and have less regrets in life since I mostly listen to my own self and mostly do things that I earnestly want to do and enjoy doing them no matter how basic or complicated and irrespective of if anyone else approves it or not, so by mid of the book I was actually wondering what was the book about.

Thought this book was a self help book detailing on close relationships and navigating constant pressure of victimization by some people in our lives we can’t get rid of exactly, however, it didn’t seem to go in that direction and felt sort of general advice like the one given in some talk- show probably, sort of shallow and no much self-discovery or a progress I was looking for. However, I already got another of his books so I am going to try that as well and hope it would be a better book than this one.

A Very Interesting Book explaining Soaps, Microbiomes, Personal Cleanliness and Skin Health

Brought this book Clean by James Hamblin sometime ago and finally read it! It is a very interesting read and it was very interesting to know how soaps came into existence, how they effect the skin microbiome and very interesting researches that scientists are doing in the area of skin microbiomes.

Personally, for many years, we have been going off of the mainstream products and replaced soaps with minimal ingredient safe ewg verified soaps and replaced creams with jojoba oil or other natural oils such as almond, apricot, castor or argon, any single ingredient oils basically. For nearly two years, we used only homemade shampoo and rinses and that changed after we started home renovation and also got pregnant, then with taking care of baby 24x7, life is upside down! 😃 I know we will go back and make our own shampoo and rinses again, though just not yet. However, this book certainly feels at home and so connecting since it is of my true area of interest. And, as explained in the book, I have left my skin alone especially after getting pregnant since all I can afford time for is applying a bit of jojoba oil to face once in two or three days and it feels good this way anyway.

I also agree about the toilet paper part and glad James mentioned exactly the way I have been using it for years. Never really thought that I will read it any book let alone in this book! Facts about collagen peptides was a shocker personally and I realized I have a long way to figure things out, and I am inclined to reading more books like this. And, read about prebiotics in a different time and in a different context and amazed how it might impact skin microbiome as well. The FDA part also came in as a surprise and I am happy we have been taking our food and household care products very seriously for over a decade now and I have stopped using cosmetics since my pregnancy. Everything that’s covered with respect to babies and microbes is also so fascinating and that alone made this read so worthwhile for me.

Overall, I loved this book and I will probably reread in a few years to get a deeper understanding and I will probably read the other book also written by James Hamblin. And lastly, the kindle book and audiobook do not sync. So, I read and listened separately except for the last two chapters of the book. Wish they were synced! Despite sync issues, this a great book. 🙂

Amazing Love Story

Got this audiobook a very long time ago and have wanted to listen to it for quite sometime now. However, it got lost in the library of over 1000 audio books. Saw this title browsing through books and just decided to listen to it and glad I did. It is a beautiful love story. Liked Kristen Ashley’s plot and overall story for it captured the emotional aspects so wonderfully and narrative was good.

Usually, agonizing stories are not something I tend to enjoy, and even though this story has some agonizing parts, overall story itself is not agonizing. I felt for Lily and Nate. The impresses of ourselves that we succumb to as children are so hard to get over with. Interestingly, life’s journey seems to surround around those opinions that that have formed in childhood that seem to affects relationships, trust and moving forward overall and Kristen Ashley captured all that so well in this book. It actually takes someone to trust and confide and rely upon and to know there is that special someone who will always be there no matter what and where and how for someone to heal and that is what this story is all about. It was a worthwhile purchase and I will definitely listen to and probably even read it in a few years again. A feel good story. And I loved Fazire! 😀😀

Carly Robins is a wonderful narrator that definitely made the book come alive. Would be happy to listen to other books narrated by her. It was a great listen overall.

Unique science fiction

While I enjoy science fiction quite a lot, this is a somewhat different kind of science fiction story and it is my first book by Dennis E. Taylor. It was not purely the singularity focus story of Ivan Prichard like that of Martian or Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir. This story involved some other important characters and actually a lot of characters for that matter, more like a Marvel Studio movie book. The ending was not what I expected especially for Ivan. Would be happy to read if there is ever a next book as I probably want to see how it would all turn out to be way ahead in his future.

This is my second audible book to listen to narrated by Ray Porter. First was the Project Hail Mary that I read and listened simultaneously, so it was a different experience. However, both being science fiction and both in the outer space, could draw a certain parallels somewhat in the process of narration. Overall it was an interesting listen. Will probably read as well someday just to see if I would feel any different either about the story or the part of Ivan Prichard. 🙂

Raising Good Humans by Hunter Clarke-Fields is one of the very best books I have ever come across. I resonate with her at every point both about self awareness and being present in the moment with our children. This is a book I am going to reread/relisten definitely multiple times as there is so much in here that I want to be aware and that I want to make sure that I am doing it in spirit with our baby not only in the toddler years but also tween and teen and adult years ahead.

I agree with Hunter Clarke-Fields that we all come with our own baggages and it’s important for us to realize and understand our own baggages first. I have listened to a few books of Thich Nhat Hanh and liked his understanding and thought process and articulation. After reading this book, I am inclined to read/listen to more of his books for positive mindset for understanding is indeed liberating. There is practically so much I love in this book that review can’t just do a justice for all the good stuff in here.

Some interesting points on baby crying, narrating, hugs, warmth, supporting, letting go of it-then, and many others make so much sense. We never stopped our toddler from crying and after listening to this book, we never will. Also, narrating from baby’s point of view seems to help even with our eighteen month old. Genuinely appreciate this book. While the narration was nice, the narrator Jennifer Gilmour, seemed to be on fire to finish the book, this is one of those books where a bit of slow reading would do lot better for it is a book to process and contemplate over so next time I listen to it, I will slow the pace a bit! 🙂🙃

Very useful audiobook for sprouting enthusiasts

We have been sprouting lentils on and off since a few years and for about a year, we have been sprouting lentils and cooking them now and then, mainly for better mineral content. Wanted to become more knowledgeable about sprouting for its health benefits and also get inspired to do it more often than we do and improve our sprouting methods and techniques. Came across this audiobook and immediately brought it and it’s been a very good investment for understating so much about sprouting. Even if not in the immediate future, I would love to incorporate more sprouts into our food on daily basis and this audiobook provides all necessary tools, methods and tips to sprout thoroughly and cleanly. The sprout book by Doug Evans is certainly inspirational and useful to me and most of all, it is very simple and easy to understand. It was well narrated by the author himself which was a great plus. Overall, happy to listen to this audiobook though I will probably end up getting a kindle version of this audiobook eventually and read it as well. 🙂

This audiobook might help kids understand COVID-19, especially the toddlers who haven’t experienced or understood COVID-19. This book will do a decent job of explaining how it was for people to experience COVID-19 during 2020 and 2021. Thanks to the nice people who spent time and efforts recording this audiobook.

The Prophet by Khalil Gibran is a very insightful book. It is interesting and surprising that so much can be written in such short poetry proses. It is something to read or listen and then contemplate. Also, brought a kindle version of this book and will be reading it, probably more than once. Definitely worth listening to and/or reading and worth to be a part of personal book collection. Pretty impressive philosophical and well written book indeed by Khalil Gibran.
