But Mortarion and his sons must face their gravest challenge first - for Nurgle has claimed them as his own, and he will not be denied.... The skies darken over Terra as the final battle for the Throne looms ever closer.... A mess.
Revisado: 09-12-21
There is a good story in here, but it is wrapped up in so much endless tedium that I cannot be bothered to keep looking for it. I gave the book a final chance after a few days’ rest, but had to give up. Utter boredom. Enjoyed Swallow’s ‘Flight of the Eisenstein’, but all the material I have read by him since has been dull and uninspired.

Historia
When itinerant cave diver James Tighe receives an invitation to billionaire Nathan Joyce's private island, he thinks it must be a mistake. But Tighe's unique skill set makes him a prime candidate for Joyce's high-risk venture to mine a near-Earth asteroid - with the goal of kick-starting an entire off-world economy. The potential rewards and personal risks are staggering, but the competition is fierce, and the stakes couldn't be higher. Isolated and pushed beyond their breaking points, Tighe and his fellow 21st-century adventurers must rely on each other to survive....

Average Hollywood action movie with veneer thin scifi coating
Revisado: 06-27-21
The premise seemed interesting, so I really tried sticking with it - but the bullshit filter kept clogging up so fast and often that I just had to give up.
Predictable. Annoying. The author might have done research, but if so it sure seems like he did the wrong research. Just terrible.

Historia
In the 20th century Earth sent probes, transmissions, and welcoming messages to the stars. Unfortunately, someone noticed. The Galactics arrived with their battle fleet in 2052. Rather than being exterminated under a barrage of hell-burners, Earth joined their vast Empire. Swearing allegiance to our distant alien overlords wasn't the only requirement for survival. We also had to have something of value to trade, something that neighboring planets would pay their hard-earned credits to buy. As most of the local worlds were too civilized to have a proper army, the only valuable service Earth could provide came in the form of soldiers....

Not really worth it, unless you happen to be in the mood
Revisado: 06-13-21
This book is deep as a puddle and clever as a pile of bricks. The tropes are piled high, and the reading performance unfortunately matchs this perfectly. Usually this book would have been returned immediately, but this time, for some reason, it was just the pallet cleanser I needed. That doesn’t make it special or good, I must in fact recommend against it - unless you just happen to need a hit of run-of-the-mill, completely average sci fi military action that pisses you off only half of the time. If I ever read another book in this series, I will be as surprised as when read this.

Historia
The Galahad, a faster-than-light spacecraft, carries 50 scientists and engineers on a mission to prepare Kepler 452b, Earth's nearest habitable neighbor at 1400 light years away. With Earth no longer habitable and the Mars colony slowly failing, they are humanity's best hope. After 10 years in a failed cryogenic bed - body asleep, mind awake - William Chanokh's torture comes to an end as the fog clears, the hatch opens, and his friend and fellow hacker, Tom, greets him...by stabbing a screwdriver into his heart. This is the first time William dies.

Never gets going
Revisado: 05-15-21
The performance of the reader is pretty good, but when the story had yet to get airborne after 90 minutes of a 10 hour book, it’s bye bye. Nothing at all to catch my interest, just endless tedium.

Sub-par
Revisado: 02-18-21
The Horus Hersy short story collections have usually delighted me, they always contain some trash writing but almost always enough good stories to make them worth it on average. This one got me quite excited due to the many good writers listed. Unfortunately, as always, it is the poor writers who produce the most material and this book is an awful example. There are a few, short, bright sparks by the capable authors, while the majority of the book is absolute garbage. Worth it if you like dull, irrelevant stories and unending bolter porn, I guess. Also, the reader not only becomes very, very, veeery wound up when an action scene occurs, which is, eh, tolerable. The problem is that at the same time he also STARTS SHOUTING, so the action sequences hurt my ears until I get to the volume controls. The only recommendation I can give for this book is to stay far, far away.

Revisado: 01-26-21
It is astounding to note that Foundation was first released as a series of short stories starting in 1942. Having read the books as a teenager, I wanted a review as an adult - and Foundation is still amazing. An extremely good reading maintains the good image. Recommended to any science fiction fan of any age.

Pieces of eight!
Revisado: 01-15-21
This is a full audio drama production, and while it starts off a bit shaky it soon gets wind in the sails and sets off for classic adventure on the high seas and beyond. Just as engaging and exciting as when I first heard it in audio drama form on local radio as a kid. It is a classic for a reason!

Disappointing sequel
Revisado: 01-12-21
The first book in this triology really gripped me and I finished it quickly - a great sci-fi novel with action and adventure, and great characters. This one just goes on and on, endlessly repeating itself without going anywhere. There is nothing interesting to latch onto either in plot or characters, and in the end I just gave it up out of sheer boredom. Read the first book and pretend this did not happen. I will not pick up the third book.
