Historia
It’s 1857, and anxious debutante Beth has just one season to snag a wealthy husband, or she and her mother will be out on the street. But playing the blushing ingenue makes Beth’s skin crawl and she’d rather be anywhere but here. Gwen, on the other hand, is on her fourth season and counting, with absolutely no intention of finding a husband, possibly ever. She figures she has plenty of security as the only daughter of a rakish earl, from whom she’s gotten all her flair, fun, and less-than-proper party games.

listen with caution
Revisado: 03-21-24
the very first story made me sick, I spotted listening after the 4th. it"s too much, I couldn"t go on. but unfortunately, it"s true, it"s basically that women are taught that they have no boundaries with men.

Historia
When she was suddenly given the opportunity of a new life in rural Jutland, journalist and archetypal Londoner Helen Russell discovered a startling statistic: the happiest place on earth isn"t Disneyland but Denmark, a land often thought of by foreigners as consisting entirely of long, dark winters, cured herring, Lego and pastries. What is the secret to their success? Are happy Danes born or made?

Historia
Somewhere on the frontier between thought and reality exists the Discworld, a parallel time and place that might sound and smell very much like our own, but which looks completely different. Particularly as it’s carried though space on the back of a giant turtle (sex unknown). It plays by different rules. But then, some things are the same everywhere. The Disc’s very existence is about to be threatened by a strange new blight: the world’s first tourist, upon whose survival rests the peace and prosperity of the land.

A little different
Revisado: 04-07-23
I have read a lot of cherry Pratchett and this one was a little different. while there was still a lot of whimsy and wonderful one-liners there was a sense of horror and despair in this one. The narrator wasn"t as good as some of the others who have done discworld books. It is still worth reading. It goes into some of the deeper aspects of what makes up the discworld.

Historia
It"s the summer before middle school, and 11-year-old Bug"s best friend, Moira, has decided the two of them need to use the next few months to prepare. For Moira, this means figuring out the right clothes to wear, learning how to put on makeup, and deciding which boys are cuter in their yearbook photos than in real life. But none of this is all that appealing to Bug, who doesn"t particularly want to spend more time trying to understand how to be a girl. Besides, there"s something more important to worry about.

Historia
Sam is very in touch with their own queer identity. They"re nonbinary, and their best friend, TJ, is nonbinary as well. Sam"s family is very cool with it... as long as Sam remembers that nonbinary kids are also required to clean their rooms, do their homework, and try not to antagonize their teachers too much. The teacher-respect thing is hard when it comes to Sam’s history class, because their teacher seems to believe that only Dead Straight Cis White Men are responsible for history.

Great children"s book
Revisado: 01-10-23
Adults will love it too but I really could have used a book like this when I was young. Queer protagonist stories are hard to find and even rarer for having a happy ending.

Join actress and activist Erika Alexander in a neo-noir, true crime drama as she searches for Tamika Huston, a 24-year-old Black woman from Spartanburg, SC who went missing in 2004. Her case became a rallying cry for other missing Black women in America and led to a growing demand to expose a system that ignores missing girls and women of color.

Should be required reading
Revisado: 01-06-23
I think reading this in highschool would have done me better than reading Hamlet or A Journey to the center of the earth. This is about life, happening now. The reader is an amazing story teller. This is an epic saga of this girls life and the people left behind in the wake of her disappearance and reappearance. Read it.

Fumio Sasaki is not an enlightened minimalism expert or organizing guru like Marie Kondo - he"s just a regular guy who was stressed out and constantly comparing himself to others, until one day he decided to change his life by saying goodbye to everything he didn"t absolutely need. The effects were remarkable: Sasaki gained true freedom, new focus, and a real sense of gratitude for everything around him.
