The narrator’s voice
Revisado: 01-04-25
I loved the premise and clearly it would take a lot of love to birth this book, but Doris’s voice is not an “audible” quality narrator voice. No offense, but that’s my only complaint.

Millions of Amor Towles fans are in for a treat as he shares some of his shorter fiction: six stories based in New York City and a novella set in Golden Age Hollywood. The New York stories, most of which take place around the year 2000, consider the fateful consequences that can spring from brief encounters and the delicate mechanics of compromise that operate at the heart of modern marriages.

Eve’s voice was perfect for her clever beauty and so was the tired voice of Charlie, the retired homicide detective. However you could tell Charlie seemed 5 years younger as he was planning the “revenge” on Irish former cop who had also stolen $$ from the casino heist.

Wonderful story about a woman who gave back to other women
Revisado: 09-07-24
So glad I heard about the story of the author in the dr’s office waiting for her appt. She gave life to the characters in the book and the children she brought into this world. An amazing picture of the day to day life of a midwife, wife, mother, grandmother and friend to so many.

Revisado: 08-02-24
Liked the style of the reading which allowed me to understand with the last chapters that the biographer was writing and Louise was no longer alive except for her books, notes, and articles which will live on forever for those who love birds.

Liked Nancy a lot—gutsy, intelligent and learned from every situation. it uber hard to read how awful the Gestapo were to Jewish people and how disgusting some of her fellow comrades could be—women have always had to be “more”—and thankfully we are!

Wonderful sadness and painful growth
Revisado: 02-21-23
The story tells of a strong Vietnamese immigrant who with her family fled Saigon in 1975 after Communist takeover. It a very real story and awakened me to how children and adults and children can be so cold, hard and uncaring to those who have sacrificed their life to come to the US. It made me awake to seeing the sadness and beauty of another culture. It made me thankful for people like Mrs Washington who could turn her own grief into something caring for Ha.
