This book tells you how to work an undercover operation. Of course, there are many types of undercovers ops but it you were studying a police procedural on how to do one, this could be the model.

Throw in the Kings Lake crew and you have the makings of an entertaining fictional work.

This was an entertaining tale with a sense of dread hoping everyone comes out unscathed.

An adaptation by Anna Lee of Agatha Christie's debut novel. A multi-cast of narrators led by Peter Dinklage. Done by Audible Studios, the sound effects were great. A short, enjoyable listen.

Set in an English estate during the time of World War I, it's a classic who done it. The matriarch of the state is poisoned to death and there are lots of suspects. Could it be the 20-year younger husband, other family members, the nurse, the maid, the doctor, the list goes on and on and in a very short time all are considered as potential candidates. In comes Inspector Poirot to save the day and figure it all out.

First time author for me.

How does an author wanting to write a World War II story come up with a niche that no other author has come up with before? That seems to be a challenge but what an author should strive to do, at least from my layman's perspective. There are so many topics one can write about WWII I often think of it as a Rubik cube, twist it around a bit and you get a different story.

The author in this one does come up with a new idea, at least from my vantagepoint, writing a work of historical fiction where you tackle the challenge, that really happened in WWII, where lovers of art in occupied Paris work to save as much of the art that was being stolen by the Nazis.

The author does a great job of weaving a tale bringing this to life. The author, a Canadian from Toronto, had to do a lot of research into Nazi stolen art, art restoration, forgeries, the occupation itself, wine and champagne making, the French resistance, there are a lot of different aspects to the story. She does a good job with it all.

This was a fun, enjoyable listen. I will definitely look into her other works.

First time author for me.

A lot of this book borders on being scary but I'd rather define it as troubling. The references to Nazi Germany are scary.

AS I write this the election is over and Trump is the President elect Right now, he's playing nice, not being too outlandish as to what he's going to do. It will be very interesting to see how it all unfolds after he takes office.

I am trying to distance myself from politics post-election but it's really hard to ignore all the news in the world. The author of this book says we've all got to be involved and fight for what's right. Seems to me that could be very difficult, at least right now.

A bit of a different tale in the series. The others were intimately immersed in the weather of the Isle of Skye, this one not as much. Rather it was more of a straightforward police procedural albeit a good one.

A good mystery where Duncan and team had to cut away at the layers of the mystery. But cut away they did until finally unraveling the truth.

The weather of Skye did play more of a part in the end.

Still, it is a good story in the series.

First time author for me. A fast paced 4 hours listen. I really enjoyed this one.

After a twelve-year period, six one-time close university friends get together at a remote house located on a loch (lake) in northern Scotland for a reunion. Their friendship had ended on a tragic note when the younger sister of one of them went missing those twelve years, a mystery solved. The surviving sister is the one that invited them all with the goal of finding out what happened all those years ago.

Action packed and you get into the characters quickly. Well done for a short novella.

it was fun having a true DC Smith novel again.

No longer a policeman, he works this, his third case as a private investigator. He's not sure how hard he wants to work as a PI but he finds this case interesting, and it turns out to be much more involved than originally thought and takes all the skills he used as a police detective to work the case.

AS a PI he works from a different perspective, he doesn't have the power of being the law to force getting things done. He has to use his wits.

Glad to have DC back. I hope there are more.

One of the cardinal sins of audiobooks is to change narrators midstream in a series. The reasons for the changes are myriad, the worst being the narrator dies. But that happened in this series, the second if memory serves. and the narrator got changes for whatever reason. But any time a narrator changes you can always count on negative reviews based on the change. Me? I enjoyed this new narrator. By the end of the book, it felt like he was the voice of Gamache! I look forward to future books.

Louise Penny writes what I call intellectual thrillers. The mysteries are often volved in the mind of Gamache.

The plot in the book is a big one, poisoning the water of Montreal as an act of terrorism as a way to overthrow the government and a power play by bad actors wanting power. It seemed a bit farfetched as it unfolded but then you think, in this day and age maybe it isn't so out of the question, a lot of weird stuff is going on in the world.

One aspect of the book I really enjoyed was returning to the monastery from earlier in the series. Out of all the books in the series I think about that earlier book sometimes. I liked the way it described how life in a monastery works. I enjoyed going back.

Winter on the Isle of Skye must really suck. But it runs throughout the story. Part of this series puts the Isle of Skye into a romantic light but I'm sure the reality is not so good. According to the stories summers are good and many from the mainland have summer homes here, some people invest in homes and make the AirBnb or Vrrbo places.

Duncan finds himself in another good mystery taking him all over the island. An integral part to this story finds him needing to interview the son he's just found out his hand. His relationship with the son, the mother, the stepfather are play central parts in this book. And, by now you are caught in this family story.

I wish he'd finish renovating the family home he's moving back into and get out of his caravan!

Well, if you are a Walt Longmire fan, this book fits right in with all the rest. The author uses the time slip method of switching back and forth between two times so it's almost like you are getting two stories for one in this book. The author also says in a prelude to the book that he is going to start looking back into Walt's background to tell stories that help develop the story of how Walt got to be the man he is.

The first story in this book is the follow-up to the last book where Walt is targeted by bad hombres in the house of his grandfather, where he spent lots of time growing up. There was lots of shooting and killing in this book and some rich powerful people were involved. Now an inquiry has been started into whether or not Walk was justified in killing one of them during that battle.

The second story is set in 1964 in remote Arizona. Walt and Henry have just finished college and are on their way, on a road trip, to join the military with Henry going to Louisiana and Walt to South Carolina. On their very first night on the road trip, they get lost and end up in a remote mountain town in Arizona somewhere in the vicinity of Prescott. And, of course, they find nothing, but trouble and their trip gets delayed a few days as they work to right some wrongs as only they can.

If you enjoy the series, you'll enjoy this one.
