Historia
The final novel from a great American storyteller. Donal Cameron is being raised by his grandmother, the cook at the legendary Double W ranch in Ivan Doig"s beloved Two Medicine Country of the Montana Rockies, a landscape that gives full rein to an 11-year-old"s imagination. But when Gram has to have surgery for "female trouble" in the summer of 1951, all she can think to do is to ship Donal off to her sister in faraway Manitowoc, Wisconsin.

A glimpse into the past
Revisado: 08-30-20
Ivan Doig recalls many items from the early 1950"s that brought the era into modern life. Told from the perspective of a almost teenager, it shares the awe of new discovery and adventure.
The narration was excellent. I will look for other narrations by David Baker.

Great Beekeeping Overview
Revisado: 06-15-18
Hannah Nordhaus"s book is a fun, interesting and accurate view of beekeeping in modern America. She lays out all the joys, heartaches and challenges facing this labor of love enterprise.
Beekeeping is not all joy, and Ms. Nordhaus takes us through the season showing the pressures that are faced and overcome. She appropriately reflects the optomistic and eternally hopeful nature of beekeepers. Ms. Nordhaus"s story lets us know we are not alone on this journey.
Xe Sands performance is perfect for the book, conveying empathy, excitement and hope throughout. I will certainly look for more books narrated by Ms. Sands.

Historia
Across the country women are being murdered by a killer who leaves no evidence, no fatal wounds, no signs of struggle, and no clues to a motive. They are, truly, perfect crimes. In fact, the only thing that links the victims is the man they all knew: Jack Reacher.

Historia
The extraordinary Siddhartha Mukherjee has written a biography of the gene as deft, brilliant, and illuminating as his extraordinarily successful biography of cancer. Weaving science, social history, and personal narrative to tell us the story of one of the most important conceptual breakthroughs of modern times, Mukherjee animates the quest to understand human heredity and its surprising influence on our lives, personalities, identities, fates, and choices.

A learning experience
Revisado: 07-11-17
I do not have a medical background, so parts of this were a stretch for me. That said, I learned a lot about the gene, our evolving understanding of it, the missteps we have made and the ethical challenges we face. How we manage our genes will be one of humanities biggest challenges in the future.

Historia
Geology is often thought of as simply the study of rocks. In reality, geology is the study of our planet on all scales, from microscopic to planet-wide, and ranging in time from almost instantaneous events, like earthquakes, to the glacially slow motion of the tectonic plates. Everything we know about our world from a geologic perspective is based on information locked into the rock record and the job of a geologist is to tease out that story through a wide variety of observations. This insightful course explores a range of topics that help to tell the story of Earth and to explain the discipline of Geology and the role of the geologist.

Great Overview of Our Earth
Revisado: 02-28-17
Ms. Zeigler makes a complex (for me) subject understandable. Her examples are easy to follow and illustrative of the point. Her narrative is clear, precise, and pleasant to listen to. She obviously knows and loves her life"s work.

Medical School for an Engineer
Revisado: 05-09-16
This books presents case studies as well as at least part of the Doctor"s thinking behind tests, initial diagnosis, and final treatment.
The narrative is clear, concise, and has a sense of humor.
The book openly asserts the need for the doctor to keep an open mind, and shows how incomplete, unclear, or inaccurate information from the patient impedes the process.
Overall, I learned a lot and hope I can be a better patient in the future.
