This book "reads like a dictionary"

Author who reads the book (usually something I like) reads like he is reading a road map. There are parts that include such trivial detail that I had to turn off the recording to get relief from the boredom. There are moments of true interest that are overshadowed by the minutia.

Overall the book was very enlightening.
The flow of the read was uneven . At first there was more history than story and the geographic progress was deliberately slow.
After Budapest it moved quickly and it was at times difficult to follow exactly where the traveler was.
I could not follow on Google maps as easily.
I read the book because I am headed to a Viking river cruise.
I have a much deeper understanding of the culture and history of the Danube.
A must read for Danube cruisers!
