Historia
When you have to kill the same terrorist twice in one week there’s either something wrong with your world or something wrong with your skills - and there’s nothing wrong with Joe Ledger’s skills. And that’s both a good and a bad thing. It’s good because he’s a Baltimore detective who has just been secretly recruited by the government to lead a new task force created to deal with the problems that Homeland Security can’t handle....

I read the Joe Ledger series out of order, but it doesn't matter. Each novel and short story stands on its own and engages all senses with incredibly detailed characters, technical devices and situations. I LOVED IT!!! You will, too.

Historia
Private investigator Gideon Rimes, a black Iraq War vet and a retired Army CID detective, thought he’d left behind the danger of the battlefield. He serves subpoenas, finds witnesses, and provides background checks for better pay and little use of his trusty Glock. But then he’s hired to protect sultry, young blues singer Indigo Waters from her stalker ex-boyfriend - a hotheaded cop who also serves as a driver and bodyguard for the Buffalo mayor.

I just found my new favorite writer! Fantastic descriptions. Characters lept of the page. I can remember many of the Erie county landmarks mentioned in the story. EXCELLENT! (--and, no, you can't use too many exclamation points to describe this story).

This is the BEST high fantasy I've heard in years. Imaginative, layered, thought proving. The end leave an open door for a sequel but satisfying as a stand alone novel. Just excellent!

Historia
Her name is Binti, and she is the first of the Himba people ever to be offered a place at Oomza University, the finest institution of higher learning in the galaxy. But to accept the offer will mean giving up her place in her family to travel between the stars among strangers who do not share her ways or respect her customs. Knowledge comes at a cost, one that Binti is willing to pay, but her journey will not be easy. The world she seeks to enter has long warred with the Meduse, an alien race that has become the stuff of nightmares.

Warning, Binti starts in the middle. We begin with Binti sneaking off into the night to go to university against her family's tradition. The elegant prose makes for fresh Afrocentric science fantasy. It would be interesting to see the back story and follow up of the newest alien species to join this reasonable and enlightened academic civilization. I looking forward to seeing the next adventure of Binti the harmonizer.

A Spy's Guide to Thinking

Historia
In this 45-minute listen, a former spy introduces two simple tools for thinking. The first describes how we think. The second helps us think ahead. They are the essential tools for getting things done. The tools are applied to an incident in a subway car in Europe where a spy faces a new enemy. Then, they're reapplied to Saddam Hussein's stockpiling (or not) of weapons of mass destruction.

A little book. A little story. A BIG idea! Spying is about being small, unseen, insignificant when discovered, underestimated when confronted. I'd like to take John Braddock's sophomore course if the powers that be allow it. This was a great tool to inform my own writing and craft a master spy character. Bravo and thank you Mr. Braddock.
