Joining with Bronx exile and feminist saboteur Bonnie Abzug, wilderness guide and outcast Mormon Seldom Seen Smith, and libertarian billboard torcher Doc Sarvis, M.D., Hayduke is ready to fight the power - taking on the strip miners, clear-cutters, and the highway, dam, and bridge builders who are threatening the natural habitat.

Still fantastic!
Revisado: 07-23-23
A classic story every bit as good and relevant now as when I first read it. The narrator is perfectly paired to the book.
Abbey lives.

Historia
For 18 years, Ed Viesturs pursued climbing's holy grail: to stand atop the world's 14 8,000-meter peaks, without the aid of bottled oxygen. But No Shortcuts to the Top is as much about the man who would become the first American to achieve that goal as it is about his stunning quest. As Viesturs recounts the stories of his most harrowing climbs, he reveals a man torn between the flat, safe world he and his loved ones share and the majestic and deadly places where only he can go.

9,000 meter ego.
Revisado: 03-19-23
I enjoyed the book. The information on the 14 8,000 meter peaks was engaging, and Ed is extremely knowledgeable and experienced. However, it became clear on reading that although Ed has overcome an incredible amount of challenges in life, he’s yet to conquer his own ego. The story is a good one, yet morphs at times into more of a résumé and cover letter about the author and his skills than about a good mountain story. The epilogue may be the longest, meandering route in mountaineering and follows Ed’s adventures from conquering mathematicians in his audience to even having the best wedding ever. I put this book down having enjoyed it, yet curious how in all of that time on mountains, the lessons of humility somehow escaped him. I will eagerly anticipate the sequel where I expect Ed will share how he was able to build the pyramids without modern tools.
It’s worth a read. He’s an extraordinary mountaineer.

Historia
For the first time in thirty years, more than a dozen former ATF agents who participated in the initial February 28, 1993, raid speak on the record about the poor decisions of their commanders that led to this deadly confrontation. Revelations in this book include why the FBI chose to end the siege with the use of CS gas; how both ATF and FBI officials tried and failed to cover up their agencies’ mistakes; where David Koresh plagiarized his infamous prophecies; and direct links between the Branch Davidian tragedy and the modern militia movement in America.

A story everyone should know…..
Revisado: 02-06-23
…..so often we see events such as the tragedy at Waco happening in real time as the public is fed propaganda and falsehoods designed to justify illegal actions and incompetence by government entities more concerned with image than truth. After the smoke clears, the reality begins to shine though.
This is a perfect example of why it’s important to learn history in order to not make the same mistakes again.
Waco was an unavoidable tragedy.
And this is a thoroughly researched and deeply engaging book.

Historia
Lois Gibbs, Luella Kenny, and other mothers loved their neighborhood on the east side of Niagara Falls. It had an elementary school, a playground, and rows of affordable homes. In the spring of 1977, pungent odors began to seep into these little houses, and it didn’t take long for worried mothers to identify the curious scent. It was the sickly-sweet smell of chemicals.

Gripping….
Revisado: 04-19-22
This is an extraordinary story. I grew up in the area and once lived in North Tonawanda, not far from Love Canal.
The author is quite simply an skillful and gripping story teller. I was enthralled the entire book.
Outstanding. Truly.
