Tim Curry does this novel such justice
Revisado: 12-05-21
A Christmas Carol is the perfectly perfect ghost story. And Tim Curry's dramatic narration captures Dickens sense of humor, dry wit, spooky imagery, and even unassuming moral message just as brilliantly. I doubt the author himself would have read it aloud any better.

A mystery, a love story, and a character tale
Revisado: 12-02-21
A different kind of book, this novel manages to captivate by defying one set of genre rules. It's a love story, with several stories of romance developed, across generations. There's character development, with interesting personal challenges posed to the characters that call into question a reader's own prejudices and values. A mystery intrigues as a meta-whodunit unfolds. And the narrator throughout voices plot and dialogue with the conviction of a gifted actor. Very worthwhile.

Overall, a good tale
Revisado: 08-18-21
This is an interesting story with just the right amount of twists and turns to keep it engaging. There were times when the words felt stilted, and there are a few overused expressions -- phrases a good editor should have caught. Yet the story was so interesting I stuck with this book to the end. few parts were predictable and those that were, even the climax, still felt satisfied and fit the tale.
I was listening to the narrated version. I personally favored the reading voice of the second narrator on this audiobook, the one who spoke for Deirdre and Kitty. The one who read for Tessa's chapters did nothing wrong that I can put my finger on, yet I realized my issues with the writing disappeared under the other reader. perhaps it was simply my subjective reception.

Overworked and underappreciated, single mom Amy Byler needs a break. So when the guilt-ridden husband who abandoned her shows up and offers to take care of their kids for the summer, she accepts his offer and escapes rural Pennsylvania for New York City. Usually grounded and mild mannered, Amy finally lets her hair down in the city that never sleeps. A fun read with a few serious thoughts to consider
Revisado: 08-11-21
The narrator of this book keeps it and enjoyable read, even through a few trickier subplots where on page I might have lost interest. She does not attempt to do masculine voices in a way that is too distracting. and her intonation seem to fit and punctuate the text.
The protagonist's situation is believable and relatable. Some of her reactions do cause hesitation. The strength in her character comes from her actions and inner thoughts more than what she actually says. The characters who surround her add a welcome comic element to the story.
For the most part, this is a light read but an enjoyable one. Nonetheless, one can contemplate the struggles a single mother faces as well as the ease with which infidelity continues to be glorified or at least romanticized by too many. Also, the lack of instant repercussions for breaking contracts and bonds.
