Great Book about Manson
Revisado: 08-26-21
I've read probably every book on Manson, and this is one of my favorites. Ivor Davis covered the events of 1969 and the subsequent trials, so he has a unique perspective that I really enjoyed.

What a great podcast. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Tyler seems like such a nice guy, smart, ethical and well- grounded. His parents must be very proud. It's too bad Grandpa George never fully came around.
The format of this podcast was great. it was very well produced.

Historia
Once upon a time Rolling Stone contributing editor Erik Hedegaard became the last mainstream media journalist to interview Charles Manson. But the story he wrote for RS in 2013 didn’t begin to capture the strange and lingering effect Manson would have on his life. Now, in this Audible Original, you’ll hear about the making of that story, including audio of the phone calls Hedegaard received from Manson on a regular basis, interviews he conducted with Los Angeles District Attorney Vincent Bugliosi, as well as conversations he had with Manson Family members.

I don't like to criticize, but making an exception
Revisado: 03-07-21
This was painful to listen to. The author definitely has some issues. He says he got some kind of thrill when Manson touched his arm. Really? His mother did terrible things to him with matches when he was a kid. Really? And one of the Kennedys bullied him when he was in school. Really? What does this have to do with Manson?
Good Lord. I'm not surprised the author writes for the Rolling Stone because it shows how irrelevant the RS had become. I'm glad I didn't pay for this.

I got this after watching Bosch on Amazon Video. I really enjoyed the show (new season please!!) and this book was so entertaining that I'm going to start listening and reading the other books in the series.
Not for heavy thinkers, but pure entertainment that's not silly or patronizing.
Narration was great, too.

What a great story!
Revisado: 11-10-15
I really loved this book. And Charlie Wilson and Gust Avrakotos are my kinda guys. If you've seen the movie, well, it is lame compared to the book.
A great, improbable story filled with fascinating characters. Well written. The narrator was fabulous.
One thing that struck me about Charlie Wilson-he was an authentic man. No BS. What you saw was what you got. I think politicians would do themselves and their constituents a service by looking at Charlie. He had his downsides and his issues, but that's what made him human. He didn't hide it. Everyone knew, and that's why he kept getting elected to Congress from his Bible Belt district in East Texas. People trusted Charlie Wilson and when you read this book, you will see why.
And Gust Avrakotos was a great man, too. We need more Gusts in government today.
These guys and the other characters make this book such a great read. I wish it never ended!
Nothing better than a great story, impeccably portrayed by the author and performed well by the narrator.
After reading and listening to this book, I just wanted to have dinner with these two guys! That would be one heck of an entertaining evening. Sadly, they're gone, but happily this book tells their tale.
Awesome.

Historia
Two men, each handsome and unusually adept at his chosen work, embodied an element of the great dynamic that characterized America’s rush toward the twentieth century. The architect was Daniel Hudson Burnham, the fair’s brilliant director of works and the builder of many of the country’s most important structures, including the Flatiron Building in New York and Union Station in Washington, D.C. The murderer was Henry H. Holmes, a young doctor who, in a malign parody of the White City, built his “World’s Fair Hotel” just west of the fairgrounds.

I was disappointed, despite the reviews.
Revisado: 11-10-15
I was excited to listen to this book. I even bought the Kindle version. I heard so many wonderful things about the book. But for some reason, I just couldn't get into it. I tried very hard! I tried listening, then reading, and listening again. But it didn't do it for me.
I'm not trying to trash this book at all, because obviously I am an outlier since everyone else seems to really like it. Perhaps I had trouble with the parallel stories of both main characters.
Also, maybe my expectations were too high. But the author, whom I really like, obviously did a lot of research and the book is well-written. It just wasn't my cup of tea for some reason.

I never read fiction...but this was great!
Revisado: 11-10-15
I really enjoyed this book. And I never read fiction books. I am a lawyer and just thought the story seemed interesting. I wondered how realistic or interesting a fictional account of a criminal case might be. I must say I was pleasantly surprised! I really enjoyed listening to this book. I couldn't wait to get in the car or do some yard work just so I could listen!
The legal aspects of the book seemed spot on to me, except for the prosecutor who should not have prosecuted the case for reasons you will understand when you listen. But other than that, the descriptions of trials, lawyers' thoughts, judges and juries were pretty perceptive.
Now maybe I will start reading some more fiction.
I was familiar with the narrator, Grover Gardner, after listening to his excellent performance of the Rise and Fall of the Third Reich. Gardner was just as magnificent telling this tale. He has a great voice, even when listening at 1.25x or 1.5x speed on Audible.
If you like true crime books, this is better than most since most true crime books today read like a collection of newspaper articles. Not many In Cold Blood's out there for true crime fans. So if you like true crime books like I do, take a chance on this book. You will be glad you did!

Historia
In this revelatory biography, Evan Thomas delivers a radical, unique portrait of America’s 37th president, Richard Nixon, a contradictory figure who was both determinedly optimistic and tragically flawed. One of the principal architects of the modern Republican Party and its “silent majority” of disaffected whites and conservative ex-Dixiecrats, Nixon was also deemed a liberal in some quarters for his efforts to desegregate Southern schools, create the Environmental Protection Agency, and end the draft.

Interesting Book about Post 9/11 Events
Revisado: 02-14-13
Very interesting book on Post-9/11 Washington. Eye opening and an easy read and listen (I read it on Kindle also).
This book will make you think whether you are a Neo-Con or a Dove.
I must say that I was a supporter of the Iraq War and the renditions, but have been rethinking all of these issues. This book excels at bringing events together that were happening all over the world at the same time. That is why I would recommend this title.
I also enjoyed the narrator.
Also, Mr. Eichenwald gave interviews after this book was released, so search for him on YouTube. His comments on the book provide more insight.
