Overall just OK
Revisado: 09-03-24
A little slow and lacks enough gravitas to be a serious defective story and lacks the humor to make it a fun light read.

Historia
Every Winter, the human population hibernates. Your name is Charlie Worthing, and it's your first season with the Winter Consuls, the committed but mildly unhinged group of misfits who are responsible for ensuring the hibernatory safe passage of the sleeping masses. You are investigating an outbreak of viral dreams which you dismiss as nonsense; nothing more than a quirky artifact borne of the sleeping mind. When the dreams start to kill people, it's unsettling. When you get the dreams, too, it's weird. When they start to come true, you begin to doubt your sanity.

An interesting beginning, but seemed rushed
Revisado: 09-15-23
The story started out well enough but the characters were never really developed. Two dimensional characters plodded through the action to a predictable end. The narrator Zara Ramm was the best part of the book but even she couldn't save the limited writing

Historia
When level-headed Francie arrives in Roswell, New Mexico, for her college roommate’s UFO-themed wedding—complete with a true-believer bridegroom—she can’t help but roll her eyes at all the wide-eyed talk of aliens, which obviously don’t exist. Imagine her surprise, then, when she is abducted by one. Odder still, her abductor is far from what the popular media have led her to expect, with a body like a tumbleweed and a mass of lightning-fast tentacles. Nor is Francie the only victim of the alien’s abduction spree.

It is a funny premise but sadly disappointing
Revisado: 09-10-23
The idea of an alien actually showing up in Roswell while a UFO conclave is going on, priceless. Without giving away too much I can only say the alien is so absurd that the comedic premise devolves into an overworked and humorless tale. I know Connie Willis is better than this effort.

Better than pretty good but short of great
Revisado: 09-10-23
The story plodded along and was pretty good, but it wasn't great. Too much repetitive military detail. Not enough character development to really care who live and died.

This was a nice take on a standard cozy detective
Revisado: 02-21-22
This mystery was an an interesting pre-World War I tale that captured my interest. I have seen some of the reviews that were critical, but from my perspective they were unjustified. If you are looking for a nice way to pass the time I recommend this book.
