I"ve just discovered the fiction of Mesu Andrews this year and I am enjoying her creative storytelling based on biblical characters. This story is very dramatic, with the villainous Potiphera and assassinations abounding. I really liked the development of the relationship between Joseph and Asenath. It was well done and quite believable. Some of the side plots and characters dealing with Potiphera"s schemes and political intrigues were less well-developed and a little hard to follow. I also struggled with the narrator who voiced Asenath. Her voice was too intense and did not vary effectively with changing emotions and situations. I"m very glad I listened to the audiobook, but I might have enjoyed reading this one in book form.

This is a classic!

I have loved this story for decades. This narrated version was done in the 90s and is a simple, skillful reading of the text. The narrator gives appropriate voices to the characters but there is no other embellishment. I prefer this to dramatized versions because they lose much of the depth of description of Middle Earth that make this story so real.

No let down in latest Gabriel Allon adventure

The story is a little too close to reality to take lightly. New and familiar characters are woven into a skillful plot with just the right mix of resolution and loose ends for future surprises. While solidly condemning radical Islamist terrorism, there is a strong tone of sympathy toward all people of good will in the conflicted Middle East. Hope for the future in the face of serious threats keeps the story in balance. Touches of romance warm the heart. A very compelling read.

Gary Taubes follows his first book, Good Calories, Bad Calories, with this shorter, more accessible summary of nutritional and weight loss research over the past century. His conclusion that dietary carbohydrates are the primary cause of obesity and metabolic syndrome is very compelling. If you are struggling to lose weight with conventional low fat, calorie restricted weight loss approaches, please read this book and consider what Taubes has to say about carbohydrate restriction. It is possible to lose weight weight and without constant hunger.
