I love this story and have listened to, watched and read many versions. I was excited to hear Jim Dale read the story. Unfortunately, at times he appeared to lack the vocal range to convincingly speak the words of each character. Overall though it is a good performance. Considering how many versions I have heard, watched and read I can’t be certain if this version is exactly as originally written.

There is nothing to recommend about this book. It spent too much time on subjects not related to the subject. I don’t care whom the main police characters slept with. I don’t want to read about it or hear about it. They are supposed to be solving the crime. I want to hear what clues they discovered. I want to see how they got the answers. What lead the team to the conclusions. Why did the killers do what they did. What they thought, why they thought they would get away with it. This book was a dreary read and a waste of my time. I would return it but even Amazon doesn’t want it. They apparently don’t offer a refund on it.

The stories are macabre and creepy. I want to return this book but the option doesn’t appear.

The story moves along. The problem is they stereotyped Holmes. He was mostly a sad functioning junky. If they had dropped that part it would"ve been a much better story. Him thinking he could trust his dealer was foolish. Having him get stoned just prior to a raid was stupid. Them trusting him to not go into withdrawal while they chased a potential killer was also stupid. Having him accidentally shoot himself was crazy. No way Poe and Marple would have trusted him to assist them before he got help. The time the book on the sexcapades of the three was also dumb. The mayor and the police commissioner would not have capitulated so easily once they had kidnapped the three. With such great characters there were a lot better stories to tell. This is a very disappointing story. I expected a lot better.

Rachel does it again. She has the voice and the ability to speak clearly and articulately. The book is a trip down memory lane for those willing to listen. It is the true story of how close we are to the edge of loosing our democracy. I fear one day we will not be saved from the brink by heroes. We have long ignored the lessons of the past and one day I fear we will have to pay for our blindness and ignorance. All over this book are many lessons we must heed to survive. We all want freedom to just live our lives. But the enemies we have both from within and outside plot our demise. Burying our heads will not protect us. Believing that if we are personally not the target doesn"t mean we will not be the next one targeted. We will be alone and outnumbered before we realize it. This book scares me because so few will read and I it. So few will understand what is happening.

The author is a rare bird. He writes well and he has a great voice for narrating books. His book gives a great perspective and insight into Concorde. It also highlights my sadness at never having flown abroad her. Like him and many others I fail to understand why Concorde remains the only commercial SST. It makes no sense that no other major country and country has developed their own SST. The story is written by someone that obviously loves the Concorde and loved flying it. Did I say I am sad not to have flown on her. The reverence he shows the aircraft is on clear display. Concorde was not just beautiful but a remarkable achievement. Airbus should build a new one. Boeing appears incapable of doing so. Leaving Airbus as the only company to do so. The few companies trying to build one now are half hearted efforts. Concorde flew Mach 2.2 not 1.7. And the fact that she could not over fly the United States was a US problem. I suspect in the vastness of our country an effort to find a suitable flight path for her could have been successful. No matter this book is in my view worth a read/listen.

The reason I listen to Stuart Woods novels is I can count on an entertaining read. I like to listen to Tony Robert’s he is clear and doesn’t mumble. If you watch tv today you will hear people mumbling a lot. You turn up the volume but you can’t understand the words at any level. Tony Robert’s always does a good job. I realized that I had read this book book many years ago but I enjoyed it again. I do think the story was a bit rushed at times. But you get a lot of action for your time. If you want an easy to follow fun listen this is it.

Too much fluff

The tragic end to the Concorde is painful. The loss of life that signed its death warrant is more than I can speak to. This telling of the tragedy that was Concordes end was filled with far too much fluff. The story could be told with fewer words and better focus. The narrator was good. But the story left many questions unanswered. Example were the landing gear doors preventing the landing gear from retracting? It said the doors would close once the gear were locked in place. Was there something that told the flight crew that the effort to raise the gear being thwarted by the closed doors? Why didn’t the system automatically open the doors to allow the gear to be retracted? Why didn’t they fix the tire problem long before this event occurred? I have more questions but will bore you with them. The book does answer a lot of questions about the disaster and gives a reasonable explanation of what happened to cause that crash. One must admire the effort the investigators made to answer what happened. The respect they paid to the crew that made a valiant effort to save that flight and the lives on board and on the ground. It’s sad that more Supersonic aircraft were never built. Covid-19 seems to have slowed the current development of a new generation of supersonic aircraft. SST’s could make lots of places closer and much less arduous to visit. Imagine 6 hours to fly from NYC to Sydney! Or Seattle or LA to Aukland. Imagine a SST that could fly over land. Or perhaps it could fly subsonic then go supersonic over water and areas where the sonic boom would be okay. The Concorde flew around the world there must be routes that a 21st Century one could travel and be profitable.

It is clear no one involved in the production of this book has a clue. The narrator doesn’t know how to pronounce the words. Neither does the editor. No one checked tor repeats of the material. And apparently they don’t understand that referring to the diagram below is worthless in an audio book. The test questions are poorly done. In an audio book one needs give answers with the questions. Reading the question then going on to the next question seems okay until you realize they are going to read all of the questions. Before giving all of the answers in the same manner as they read the questions. By the time you get to the answers who remembers what the questions are. It would be more helpful to go over each question and explain what the answers are and why. I will say that the book is not worthless. There is some valuable information within it. It is just poorly presented and done by people that clearly are amateurs. My best advice is please don’t buy this book.

In familiar and not so familiar terms Stone and company meet the challenges that come their way. Stone is marked by disposal and happily has the resources to meet the challenges. There is romance and lust as usual. The Russians are again hot on Stones tail. Stone has friends with skills and abilities above mere mortals. The results are as one hopes not so good for the bad guys. Most of the fan favorites are around. It was a fun listen except it was too much like all of the other Stone books. Also, the ending was a bit chaotic. Stone is a fit of a narcissist and thinks he’s the only one that can do anything. Fortunately he doesn’t let that stop him. Nor do his friends. I am saddened by the loss of Stones creator. I have enjoyed every novel and was looking forward to more. I have to listen to all of the old stories again and dream of the stories that would have come.
