Too Long And Repetitive

This story could have been told in half the time. I also didn’t like that the narrator read each sentence like it was a statement and not part of a story. Harvey was definitely a bad person and this definitely came through.

An Excellent Book

Such a wonderful experience. I wasn’t sure what to expect but it was one of those books I couldn’t wait to get back to. I even re-read parts and wish the book could have been much longer. I can’t imagine anyone not enjoying this?

Not Up To The Reviews

I was excited to get this book after reading the reviews. Kal Penn was a good narrator although a little too 'over the top' in some places. The first part was about his family which was very interesting. And then it moved on to where he got his breaks which was very much like how a lot of actors got theirs. So, nothing new here. The 3 chapters that were devoted to Kal working for Barack Obama could, I'm sure, have been written by many of those in a supporting role during Obama's run for presidency. I finally stopped listening when he got into the dating part because this too, I felt, was no different from the progression of other people's dating. Nothing new, or unique, here either. I was through by this time, with about 2 hours to go so I finally tuned out. Too bad because I thought it had so much promise in the beginning.

Couldn't Stop Listening

I really enjoyed this book. It really showed how good a book can be when read by the author. I thought the references to her movies were good, - very interesting and not overdone. The ONLY problem that I had with the book was that it finished to soon. It needed a few more chapters to cover the rest of her life up until now. Anyway, a very enjoyable listen!!

Not Thorough Coverage....

...lthough I still have about 6 hours to go after listening to 18 hours. The whole book thus far is so focused on the 30s, 40s and 50s. I don't know how many current readers/listeners have any idea who some of these performers are. I was hoping for a much broader chronological overview. With only 6 out of 24 hours left I'm afraid I'm done.

Was expecting more...

The story started off telling about how Sue learned about the massacre and her son’s involvement. But after that, we just seemed to get many illustrations showing how he was a normal child raised in a normal way. Sue, justifiably so, was just repeatedly showing how she did nothing that would turn her son into a mass murdered. The instances could be about my children, and many other children who turned out normal. The story therefore became very, very boring and I couldn’t finish it.

Enjoyed Most Of It!

I had listened to the five minute sample a few times and thought MM sounded more like a preacher than... Anyway, after reading so many positive reviews, I decided that it sounded worth a credit. And I’m glad I did. I really enjoyed most of the book where MM did an excellent job of telling his life stories. I just thought that the last couple of chapters were like any other actor, talking about his experiences moving from picture to picture. Overall, though, a good read.

Most Enjoyable

This was a great listen.....especially good as the author was the narrator. Lots of funny anecdotes that had me laughing aloud many times. I could have listened to much more. Don’t miss it....well worth the credit!

Not A Fan

While I’m not a fan of Patti LuPone (I saw her in Sunset Boulevard) I thoroughly enjoyed the book. She did seems to have more things that bothered her about the business than things she enjoyed. I enjoy A.L. Webber musicals but wasn’t impressed by his treatment of
Patti and others. From what I saw on You Tube, I think I would have really enjoyed her in ‘Sweeney Todd’. That seemed to be one of the most positive experiences for her. She speaks her mind in the book and holds nothing back. And that’s why I liked it so much. And having her a the narrator really made the book a good one. Get it - you won’t be disappointed.

A Very Good Book

For anyone who follows the NHL this is a most informative book and Burke does a great job of telling ‘his’ story by relating the many things he’s faced through his very diverse roles in the league. I was sorry when it was over.
