Historia
Dave Pelzer was brutally abused as a child by his emotionally unstable, alcoholic mother. She considered him a slave - no longer a boy, but an "it". He was physically and mentally tortured and starved. The outside world knew nothing of the nightmare he experienced behind closed doors, and his father was aware of the abuse but turned to denial and alcohol. The abuse only fueled a determination to survive and become stronger.

You never know what people are going through
Revisado: 11-02-24
This is the fifth time I’ve read this book, and each time, it resonates with me in a different way. The subject of child abuse is never easy to approach, but this book does it in a way that feels both raw and real. It serves as a powerful reminder that not all children come from loving, supportive homes, and many face unimaginable hardships behind closed doors.
I first read this book to my children when they were in elementary school. They were shocked at the story and asked me why I would choose to read such a difficult book to them. My answer was simple: I wanted them to be kind. I wanted them to understand that we never truly know what others might be going through at home, and sometimes a small act of kindness can make a world of difference.
As my children grew older, I saw how this book impacted them. They began to quietly buy gifts for classmates they believed were less fortunate than them. They did this anonymously, always leaving behind a small note of encouragement. These actions showed me that the lessons from this book reached their hearts and helped shape their compassion for others.

Historia
"My father had more than 50 children." So begins the haunting memoir of Anna LeBaron, daughter of the notorious polygamist and murderer Ervil LeBaron. With her father wanted by the FBI for killing anyone who tried to leave his cult - a radical branch of Mormonism - Anna and her siblings were constantly on the run with the other sister-wives. Often starving and always desperate, the children lived in terror. Even though there were dozens of them together, Anna always felt alone.

Incredible journey
Revisado: 10-26-24
I loved that the author herself read the audiobook—her pronunciation of every Spanish word was perfect, and I looked forward to hearing her calm, soothing voice. My heart ached for all the terrible things she went through, but the ending left me filled with hope. I’m so glad she found peace in her journey and ultimately found Jesus. It’s a powerful and inspiring story.

Jill and Derick knew a normal life wasn’t possible for them. As a star on the popular TLC reality show 19 Kids and Counting, Jill grew up in front of viewers who were fascinated by her family’s way of life. She was the responsible, second daughter of Jim Bob and Michelle’s nineteen kids; always with a baby on her hip and happy to wear the modest ankle-length dresses with throat-high necklines.

Great courage!
Revisado: 10-24-24
Thank you for being such an open book. I, too, grew up with a controlling father and can relate to the fear of stirring the pot and the discomfort with confrontation. I admire the purity of your heart, always wanting to do the right thing while still finding the strength to stand up for yourself. I also applaud Derrick for standing by your side and helping you through those difficult conversations. Your story is both inspiring and relatable.

Much is lost
Revisado: 10-24-24
My heart goes out to those who leave the Jehovah’s Witness religion. They have so much to lose—family, community, and a sense of identity. This book brought an eye-opening insight into the challenges and emotional toll of leaving, which I wasn’t fully aware of before. It’s a powerful, thought-provoking read that deepened my understanding and empathy.

God has promised us miracles. Are you willing to do what it takes to see them through? We all desire the favor of God on our lives. We eagerly pray and hope for his miracles, promises, and blessings. But carrying the promises of God often means being stretched, being inconvenienced, and being patient to nourish those promises until it is God's time for them to be born.

I absolutely loved this book! I hated having to press pause whenever I had to get back to work. There’s so much insight packed into every chapter that I quickly realized it’s the kind of book you need to fully immerse yourself in. I ended up stopping everything just to listen without any interruptions. Highly recommend!

Dang!
Revisado: 09-25-24
I started listening to his book on a road trip, my husband and son weren’t too thrilled about not listening to music instead, but after a little while they were all in, we listen to the entire book non stop. Afterwards we pulled up all of Zach songs and listen to them again and again, this time all his songs hit differently. Thank you for sharing your story.
