I was really disappointed when I had to stop this audiobook not even half way through. I enjoyed the story, and Teddy Hamilton did an amazing job as always with his narration. But Dake Bliss? Just no. His narration is at best jarring in comparison to Teddy Hamiltons performance and at worst boring and lackluster. No voice distinction between characters, no passion or even affliction to his words, and the ramdom misplaced pauses in the middle of sentences every few words just ruined the experience. Not the worst narrator I've ever encountered, and maybe I wouldn't have even been as affected by his poor performance if he was the only one narrating. But with the perspective switching between Bliss and Hamilton the contrast in performance quality was more heartbreaking and dreadful than the most angsty of plots could ever achieve. A true shame.

Heartwrenching Angst With a HEA

This story was unique in its ability to sprinkle in the angst that can come with struggling with a behavioral disorder on top of the general difficulties of being young, naive, emotionally vulnerable, and gay. However the angst did not over shadow the romantic aspects of the book, but rather accentuated them in a beautiful way.

The character development in Patrick was heartwarming and his journey of finding himself as a gay young man with ADHD was well written. Whiskey was definitely the rock of the duo and his love and dedication towards Patrick was inspiring.

The narration was passable but left a lot to be desired. Robert Nieman has a relaxing voice and I honestly loved it especially since it's the kind of voice I don't hear often in narrations which is a shame. It's unique sound brought another layer of beauty to the tone of the book. However, the narrator could use some practice in distinguishing voices of different characters through out the book. There really wasn't any distinction between the voices of Patrick, Whiskey, or even Fly bait despite the differences in age and gender which made the dialogue difficult to follow at times.

"You know I've spent like my whole adult life putting out to get a guy to come back? Here you are promising to come back and I ain't even put out yet. You'd think I could keep that in my spastic little noggin, right?" -Patrick to Whiskey

This audiobook, along with the first one (Broken Pieces) come together to make a truly beautiful story. the narration is incredible, and the characters. Oh boy, theses men are so well written. Their flaws are the perfect mix of realistic without crossing into the dangerous territory of overdone and annoying just for the sake of it. I feel the ending could have used a little something more.

*POSSIBLE SPOILER*

We got a great deal of Teo and how he heals from his past and handles moving on from being a gang banger as a young adult. I would have liked to see a bit more of Tris and his internal battle of letting go of his own dark past.

Other than that, amazing. 4.5/5

I only made it through about half the story before I had to give up. The writing of the dialogue especially just felt rather juvinile and unnatural to me. It didn't help that the narration was quite flat. I haven't heard any otger audiobooks using this narrator so I'm not sure if this is typical of him or not but he didn't seem to put as much emotion or flare into the narration as I've become quite spoiled to by other narrators in the MM romance world. The plot seemed to have a lot of promise and I was hoping for better, maybe with another narrator it would have been bearable...

I literally couldn't get past the prologue, the story seems so interesting but I may just have to wait for the summer to read it rather than listen to the audiobook because this narrator is PAINFUL to listen to. His voice outside of the dialogue is so monotone and dull I feel like I'm listening to Google translate read this. so so disappointing...

this narrator NEVER disappoints. He's honeslty one of the best MM rom narrators I've ever heard. The plot was great and I loved how Rory and Yamane's relationship built. I was a little frustrated with Yamane's seeming inability to get it through his head that Rory is Bisexual and insisted on calling him straight even after he told him he wasn't the first man he's had thoughts about. BUT people are flawed and it just added to the realism of Yamane's character. Most likely will relisten. If for no other reason than to hear the narrators sexy southern accent. 🤤

So far I haven't listened to an audiobook from Harper Fox that I haven't thoroughly enjoyed and this one is no exception. The slow build and tenderness of the MC relationship leaves you aching.

Normally the number one thing that throws me off from an MM romance novel is the trope of the whole plot revolving around the character denying their gay. Thankfully, this played a reasonable small part in the novel so as not to grind my nerves and did NOT pull the "gay for you" justification cliche that makes me fume. There was so much more to both the MCs. Their inner turmoil in the struggle of transitioning into adult hood for Laurie and Sasha's struggle with his all around world being so different from Laurie's. All composed so beautifully without cringy cliches.

Also, Rusty Coles does an exquisite job if narrating. His voice is so perfect for capturing the uncertain insecurities of two kids flailing into the world of young adulthood. I hope the world of audiobooks hears more from Rusty Coles.

Heidi Cullinan and Iggy Toma are my dream team in MM romance. I wish they had more releases to satisfy my addiction. The story was great, though I was hoping for a bigger bombshell on the secret premise. I respect the authors decision to not make it any heavier than it was though. Not everyone has a love for all things dark and bitter. Iggy did an amazing job of conveying Simon's shy and hopeless romantic personality in his voice and the characters were all around very well written. 10/10

I wasn't sure about this narrator at first, I've come across some crappy MM romance narrators so far but John Solo puts so much heart and passion in his reading. He does a great job at conveying the feelings of the scene by emphasizing the emotions of the characters when reading their dialogue. A rare thing I've only experienced from a few other performers of audiobooks. He also does a great job at differing the vast number of character's voices from each other and he makes jamie sound soft and effeminate in a way that wasn't offensive, stereotypical, or lazy. At least in my opinon. The story was EXCELLENT. The author did an amazing job of tackling heavy subject matter without the same unrealistic cliches I typically find in books that handle similar subjects. Great work all around. 10/10

the only real complaint I have is in Alexander Cendese's performance for the first half of the audiobook. It sounded rushed and a bit jarring and bland in making the characters sound different. Especially compared to Iggy Toma's performance. Near the end ot was better but there were still a few moments (even after slowing the audio speed down) that his performance just kinda took me out of the moment. unfortunate especially since I went back and re-listened to the first book of this series and there wasn't the same problem. still a pretty good audiobook though. 8/10
