Historia
Can’t Hurt Me, David Goggins’ smash hit memoir, demonstrated how much untapped ability we all have but was merely an introduction to the power of the mind. In Never Finished, Goggins takes you inside his Mental Lab, where he developed the philosophy, psychology, and strategies that enabled him to learn that what he thought was his limit was only his beginning and that the quest for greatness is unending.

Criticism of others doing their job?
Revisado: 10-28-24
I think his knee was messed up before his arthroscopy by the sound of things. The surgeon was a poor communicator but Goggins blaming him is bad form. Seems against his philosophy. Glad he liked his HTO and that it got him going for a few more years.
Can't Hurt Me was much better but still a lot to take away from his story here. Thanks Goggins..

Historia
Every year, roughly 2 million people participate in marathons and half marathons in the United States, and, no matter what level they are, every one of these runners has likely hit “The Wall,” running out of muscle fuel in the final miles and slowing down precipitously. In The New Rules, renowned fitness journalist and training coach Matt Fitzgerald cuts through the myths, distilling the most up-to date science to help runners overcome the universally experienced nutritional barriers that prevent success in the marathon and half marathon.

Historia
The smooth veneer of the duo's songs made Steely Dan popular and famous in the 1970s, but the polish glossed over the underlying layers of anger, disappointment, sleaze, and often downright weirdness lurking just beneath the surface. The elliptical lyrics—were—and continue to be-an endless source of fascination. What kind of person was capable of writing such songs? Donald Fagen has always kept his true self hidden behind walls of irony, confounding most journalistic enquiries. Nightfly cracks open the door to reveal the life behind the lyrics.

Learned a lot about his connections to the rest of the rock world. Helm's Midnight Ramblers would have been amazing!
Inspired a deeper relisten to the SD catalog appreciated both lyrics and music on a new level.

Crazy Pono!
Revisado: 05-21-24
I liked Neil's story telling... got me listening to a bunch of albums I hadn't paid as much attention to. Overall very enjoyable with a couple gripes.
Proprietary Pono is not the solution, Neil. open it up. make it a free codec for all ... maybe I missed some design point but the Pono adverts did not sell it to me. I'm all on board with the better quality, just need a better way.
Also, the reader couldn't pronounce Sault Ste. Marie. SOUL Saint Marie, cool name for a musical town. Pretty sure it is pronounced SUE. Joel Plaskett does it that way, anyhow.
Which way to the model train store?

Gierach's legion of fans of his regular magazine column will be highly inclined to buy this title.

Revisado: 03-20-24
Gierach wit mixed with technical fly recipes read as incantations. I feel like this needs a pdf with the recipes to make it worthwhile.

Historia
After Englishman John Blackthorne is lost at sea, he awakens in a place few Europeans know of and even fewer have seen—Nippon. Thrust into the closed society that is seventeenth-century Japan, a land where the line between life and death is razor-thin, Blackthorne must negotiate not only a foreign people, with unknown customs and language, but also his own definitions of morality, truth, and freedom. As internal political strife and a clash of cultures lead to seemingly inevitable conflict, Blackthorne’s loyalty and strength of character are tested by both passion and loss.

Historia
This is the way the world ends: with a nanosecond of computer error in a Defense Department laboratory and a million casual contacts that form the links in a chain letter of death. And here is the bleak new world of the day after: a world stripped of its institutions and emptied of 99 percent of its people. A world in which a handful of panicky survivors choose sides - or are chosen.

Historia
Steven Rinella won a lottery to hunt for a wild buffalo in the Alaskan wilderness. One of only four hunters that year who succeeded in killing a buffalo, he carried the carcass down a snow-covered mountainside and floated it four miles down a white-water canyon while being trailed by grizzly bears and suffering from hypothermia. Rinella found himself contemplating his own place among the 14,000 years' worth of buffalo hunters in North America and the place of the buffalo in the American consciousness.

Interesting history and hunt story.
Revisado: 04-27-18
Really interesting, and detailed, but Rinella has this strange habit of using dirty jokes to describe things which spoil the read.
The narrator mispronounced a few words which is sort of annoying. (ie. métis).
