Fans of Neal Carey will love this book. People who have never read a Neal Carey book will want to read all of them after reading this one. The narrator takes what would have been a very good book and makes it great.

I adored the Dexter books so was interested to read Jeff Lindsay’s newest. It was okay. Not great, not terrible. Original in spots and incredibly long and plodding in others. The author would have benefited from an editor willing to say, “you made your point three pages ago; move on.” Every fan of Dexter will want to read this book, but I think most will be a little bit disappointed. It’s not terrible; it’s just not as good as the Dexter series was.

I read the reviews before buying this book. “Scott Brick is the wrong narrator for Jack Reacher,” they said. I went in forewarned. But Scott Brick is a good narrator; how bad could it be? Bad! Brick is perfectly fine for many roles, but Jack Reacher isn’t one of them. The story was marginal to begin with, but with Brick narrating it, I barely made it to the end.

I adored prior Tommy Carmellini audiobooks so gladly bought this one, thinking a different narrator wouldn't matter. Boy was I wrong! This narrator is terrible. Getting through this book was like wading through hip deep peanut butter. If you liked the earlier Tommy C books, my recommendation is to purchase this one as a regular book and read it the old fashioned way. You'll enjoy it a LOT more.
