A Worthy Subversion
Revisado: 01-28-23
If you are a loyalist to the original premise and character dynamics you might find yourself adverse to some of the continuity half way through.
Push on. Give it a chance. And really consider the new premise. You will find it quite plausible.
There you are. Now let's all enjoy this beautifully acted murder mystery.

Historia
More than two centuries after World War III poisoned the planet, the final bastion of humanity lives on massive airships circling the globe in search of a habitable area to call home. Aging and outdated, most of the ships plummeted back to Earth long ago. The only thing keeping the two surviving lifeboats in the sky are Hell Divers - men and women who risk their lives by skydiving to the surface to scavenge for parts the ships desperately need.

A Good Time
Revisado: 12-16-22
If you are a genre veteran, this book is not breaking any ground for you. It set out to tell a story of limited scope and accomplished this in spades.
It is overall an entertaining listen performed by an excellent voice, and character work, while a little one-dimensional, did get me sympathetic at times. It does have to be said, however, that the plot wears a bit thin towards the end and a few of the key turns in the story rests on contrivances which upon the big reveal puts the misdirections in earlier story in a glaring light that makes you feel a little cheated.
Will recommend if you are listening this from the Plus Catalogue.

Historia
Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission - and if he fails, humanity and the Earth itself will perish. Except that right now, he doesn't know that. He can't even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it. All he knows is that he's been asleep for a very, very long time. And he's just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home, with nothing but two corpses for company.

Pure SCI fi Joy
Revisado: 07-12-21
Ray Porter did a fantastic job to portray a relatably human protagonist working a monumental problem, and like all good science fiction, the story contains enough scientific details to convey how he arrives at the solutions.
The premise is interesting and the story contains a few surprises, one of which is responsible for a five minute sustained smile on my face while cooking. I didn't give five stars to the story and because towards the middle the handling of the changing of perspectives is a little slow and annoying. But other than that, I literally could not stop listening. Good one Andy!

There is nothing here that you would not expect from reading the synopsis and the theme. It is nevertheless very well handled and heart-warming at the right moments.

Fun trip into the corporate world
Revisado: 02-19-21
Superheroes are usually over-the-top characters. This story makes them more believable by making them have everyday problems, then providing the most realistic and sensible of solutions: corporate organization--- that is, in addition to the usual heroics. This was a really fun listen.

I found the journal at work. Well, I don't know if you'd call it work, but that's where I found it. It's the lost journal of Nikola Tesla, one of the greatest inventors and visionaries ever. Before he died in 1943, he kept a notebook filled with spectacular claims and outrageous plans.

A Light Listen
Revisado: 03-01-20
A literary equivalent of a B movie. Both the science and the fantasy elements are too light to qualify for the sci-fi category.
The story is told from the perspective of a very down-to-earth protagonist and the language reflects as much. However, I really struggled all the way to the end for a story so sparse in disposition.
The banter between the characters are supposed to be fun and relatable but given how disagreeable I find the protagonist, I found myself cringing at his lines.
The character arcs are not very well-defined but I could see what the author was going for. The payoff at the end was also nice and genuine (which I suspect was drawn from the author's own experience).
I could see a different kind of reader enjoying this more than I did. Give it a try!

A Heartwarming Adventure
Revisado: 01-21-19
It's the old formula: inspirational speaker who you'd imagine would have most likely at some point made a speech about living every day like your last actually learning that he's living his last day. This is a tale about rediscovery.
I cannot imagine the planning and love it takes to get this amazing cast together to do a live recording of this quality.
Well done!

Historia
The folks in Mike Erikson's small New England town would say he's just your average, everyday guy. And that's exactly how Mike likes it. Sure, the life he's chosen isn't much of a challenge to someone with his unique gifts, but he's content with his quiet and peaceful existence. That is, until an old friend presents him with an irresistible mystery, one that Mike is uniquely qualified to solve.

I Expected More....
Revisado: 10-30-15
Waited for the twist mentioned in the synopsis which never came. Even as I saw every spin on the world and character development coming a mile away I thought to myself that this cannot be so obvious, what with the glowing reviews I based my purchase upon. I was wrong.
The protagonist is written in adherence to the holier-than-thou idol model that has been very prevalent in recent years complete with a photographic memory, a huge IQ(basically superior in all the fashionably sexy ways) and a nerd-certified soft side backed by a mercy complex---completely unrelatable. The way he was presented makes him feel like a superhero in a movie but the frequent comparisons with Sherlock Holmes and the clearly silver-screen-inspired description of his 'power' unfortunately cheapened him so that if there was a superhero comparison to be drawn it would be with the Phantom, version purple.
Maybe I am being too harsh on the book. The summary did say SciFi thriller and I should probably have put the emphasis on "thriller". Although honestly, it could barely gain a passing grade as that since it neither has a very interesting premise for a SciFi nor are the thriller elements particularly well presented. It is even structured like a movie including the ending.
Mediocre thriller, bad SciFi.
