Historia
This book is designed to help you learn how to cope with addicts, alcoholics or substance abusers. Like most people, you are probably exhausted from trying to cope with all of the lies, arguments, anger, broken trust, stealing, manipulation, and insane behaviors that accompany having a relationship with an addict. Perhaps you have lost all hope for change and find yourself caught between loving who the substance abuser once was with all of your heart and hating the addict that they have become.

Good advice. A little heavy on God.
Revisado: 11-27-17
I know God works for some people. Not me so much. I would say this was about 30% God and the rest was good, solid advice.

Historia
Arguably the most important American lawyer of the 20th century, Thurgood Marshall was on the verge of bringing the landmark suit Brown v. Board of Education before the US Supreme Court when he became embroiled in a case that threatened to change the course of the civil rights movement and to cost him his life. In 1949, Florida's orange industry was booming, and citrus barons got rich on the backs of cheap Jim Crow labor with the help of Sheriff Willis V. McCall, who ruled Lake County with murderous resolve....

Any additional comments?
I'm sure this book is fabulous but I could only get half way through it before I went screaming into the night because the narrator was so FLAT and SLOW. I even sped up the narration speed and it was still unlistenable! Which is so frustrating because I was very excited about this book.

I bought this over 4 years ago and never listened to it. I finally decided to and am blown away! I have the urge to buy this book and give it to people as presents. Even my 9 year old son got sucked in to it as I was listening to it driving him to and from school (he usually has head phones on so I was surprised to look in the rear view mirror and see him intently listening one day). The character of Christopher Boone is lovable and absolutely frustrating- all at once! Really an outstanding book and narrator!

I don't know if all the theories presented in this book are true but the ride getting to them was sure interesting! Packed full of information about things that have perplexed me for years. And I liked that the authors paid as much attention to information concerning "normal" pornography as well as "abnormal" tastes. Well rounded. If the explosion of internet porn has ever perplexed you or you have asked yourself, "Why would anyone want to look at that?" this is the book for you.

Not bad, not great

This book reminded me of a black and white movie from the 50's or the early 60's. The writing wasn't bad and the narration wasn't bad. The "romantic sex" scenes were a bit too pedestrian for my tastes (a lot of "gazing into each other's eyes" and heaving bosom kind of stuff). It is a novel to be sure and not a work of non-fiction. It didn't elicit a big reaction out of me but I also listened to it until the end and didn't think it was horrible.

Historia
Burroughs' first novel, a largely autobiographical account of the constant cycle of drug dependency, cures, and relapses, remains the most unflinching, unsentimental account of addiction ever written. Through time spent kicking and time spent dealing, through junk sickness and a sanatorium, Junky is a field report from the American post-war drug underground. It has influenced generations of writers with its raw, sparse and unapologetic tone.

I liked this book. It was a succinct explanation of Zen Buddhism that drew on the author's experiences in real life. Zen is a hard concept to think about sometimes and I liked how Brian Haycock was able to make it very down-to-earth and understandable. He also has a wry sense of humor which I enjoyed while I was stuck in traffic listening to his book.

Historia
Part biography, part cultural history, The Creation of Anne Boleyn is a fascinating reconstruction of Anne’s life and an illuminating look at her afterlife in the popular imagination. Why is Anne so compelling? Why has she inspired such extreme reactions? What did she really look like? Was she the flaxen-haired martyr of Romantic paintings or the raven-haired seductress of twenty-first-century portrayals? (Answer: Neither.) And perhaps the most provocative questions concern Anne’s death more than her life.

The title says it all
Revisado: 04-15-14
Any additional comments?
I stumbled on this as I had just listened to another book narrated by Barbara Rosenblat (and loved her voice) and I am also interested in Anne Boleyn as a historical figure. I was surprised to realize that this really is about the "creation" of Anne Boleyn, specifically as she is portrayed in literature, plays and movies. I have never watched the Showtime series "The Tudors" which was referenced a lot and so I didn't have a good vantage point at times to truly understand what the author was speaking about. It was illuminating to hear the evolution of Anne which has been taking place since the early 1800's and to see that there is still a roaring debate even up to this day about who Anne was "really". Anyone who has watched movies or read historical fiction about Anne will no doubt enjoy this book.

Historia
Betty Dodson's memoir is the story of one woman's struggle to liberate female sexuality while enjoying her own. In the 70s, as the feminist movement evolved, Betty latched on to sexual liberation as a symbol for self empowerment. Realizing that so many women weren't enjoying sex, she asked, "How could women ever be truly equal if they were reliant on men for their sexual satisfaction?" She quickly became the leader of the sex-positive feminist movement.

I just got done with this book and all I can say is WOW! Betty Dodson is truly a feminist, hedonist, sex-positive, artist, bisexual tour-de-force! This is truly one of those books that is making me reexamine how I am going to live the rest of my life. I would make this required reading for every woman in America! And the narrator was FANTASTIC! Her lusty narration and ability to say out loud many of the sexual scenarios without flinching was truly professional and refreshing. Bravo to both women!!!
