Not your typical romance
Revisado: 12-20-24
This was written with much more complexity than the usual “romance”. There is actually a well developed story line - interesting in itself - which accompanies and supports the romance. It was refreshing to find a story in this genre that did not resonate completely with something that you’ve already heard before a thousand times. I highly recommend this book. The author did an exceptional job as did the narrator.

Historia
Eye of the Storm picks up the story of Dar Roberts and Kerry Stuart a few months after the story Hurricane Watch ends. At first it looks like they are settling into their lives together but, as listeners of this series have learned, life is never simple around Dar and Kerry. Surrounded by endless corporate intrigue, Dar experiences personal discoveries that force her to deal with issues that she had buried long ago and Kerry finally faces the consequences of her own actions.

Great series! Looking for more from this author.
Revisado: 12-03-24
I have listened to all three books in this series. I enjoyed these books so much that I will preorder any book by this author that may be listed in the future and that is something I rarely do. The books throughout continually developed the two main characters and also introduced some secondary characters who made important contributions to the arc of the story. The narrator did an excellent job distinguishing between all the characters and thus added to the enjoyment of the story. As might be expected by the titles of the books in the series, there was quite a bit of action and adventure which for me made the listen so much more appealing than the storylines more typically found in the romance genre. I hope there is more to come from this author. She is definitely on my favorites list now.

I have read all of Cari Hunter's books and have enjoyed every one of them. This is one of the best. The storyline is well developed and compelling in terms of the elements of the crime as well as the relationship between the principal characters. Also, the wonderful narration is a bonus. Hopefully there will be a sequel.

Imagine meeting a stranger one day, only for that stranger to say, “I’m your future wife.” This is exactly what happens to Carter when she heads out of town for work. There’s one problem with this: Carter is already married, and not to this stranger.

Good, but not great
Revisado: 02-13-23
I have read or listened to almost all of Nicole Pyland's books and have enjoyed them all. I'm not sure, but it may be because I am not a sci-fi fan that this one didn't entirely do it for me even though it was as well written as the author's other books. Also, in this one, the issues the characters dealt with were repetitive and persisted throughout the book and this just did not resonate with me.
Another thing that bothered me about this book (as well as many of its contemporaries): I am getting more than a little tired of authors purposely using non-gender specific names such as Ryder and Carter and very much wish they wouldn't. Really. It's not as if there aren't any gay women named Susan.

Historia
Jennette McCurdy was six years old when she had her first acting audition. Her mother’s dream was for her only daughter to become a star, and Jennette would do anything to make her mother happy. So she went along with what Mom called “calorie restriction." She endured extensive at-home makeovers while Mom chided, “Your eyelashes are invisible, okay? You think Dakota Fanning doesn’t tint hers?” She was even showered by Mom until age sixteen while sharing her diaries, email, and all her income. In I’m Glad My Mom Died, Jennette recounts all this in unflinching detail.

Promotional blurbs were very misleading
Revisado: 09-10-22
To be fair, I want to balance the negative comments that follow by first saying that this book was well written and narrated by the author. My ratings were based on the quality of the writing and the narration rather than on the actual appeal of the book which for me turned out to be very little. Before listening to the book I had never heard of the author and had never seen her on tv and I still haven't seen any of her acting. I didn't, and don't, have any special interest in the author as a celebrity. I bought the book based on the sheer number of amazing reviews and the descriptions that were used to promote the book. The bulk of the book consists of distressing and disturbing portayals of illness, addiction, parental abuse, relationship difficulties and a number of overtly serious and sad mental health issues. Reading about the author having these problems gave me an unpleasant sense of deja vu since these are not unfamiliar topics in other books. However, when I bought this book, despite the title, I wrongly expected there to be a reasonable amount of levity in its content. After all, it was described as "impressively funny" and "hilarious". While there was some ironic humor involved, there was absolutely nothing hilarious for me anywhere in this book. Other than that it pertained to a person new to me, the book didn't offer much that I hadn't read about before elsewhere. While others may appreciate this book more than I did, it may help some to know that the promotions misrepresented the book.

Somewhat disappointed
Revisado: 08-18-22
This story was well written but I was disappointed that there wasn’t more emphasis on the happenings in the space station and on the development of the romance. Instead, the centerpiece of the story involved one of the protagonist’s problems with her sadistic, misogynistic ex-husband. Also, most of the narration was very good with the crucial exception being that the voice of the space station commander actually sounded like that of a twelve year old girl. That didn’t work at all for me.

Historia
Rogue agent Zoey Blackwood is having the time of her life traveling the world and evading the CIA’s capture. Her wisecracking humor keeps things light, but her mission is no joke: save millions of innocent lives that the US considers expendable in the wake of a deadly virus. Giving away the vaccine’s top-secret formula when the government plans to sell it lands her squarely on the CIA’s most-wanted list. CIA Agent Peyton North’s mission is simple: apprehend Zoey and return her to headquarters.

Exceptionally quirky and appealing main character
Revisado: 04-03-22
The strength of this book for me was in its humor and very witty dialogue. To me this outshone the importance of the serious story line. I laughed out loud several times and if there ever were a sequel with these same characters I would buy the next book in a heartbeat.

Delilah Green swore she would never go back to Bright Falls—nothing is there for her but memories of a lonely childhood where she was little more than a burden to her cold and distant stepfamily. Her life is in New York, with her photography career finally gaining steam and her bed never empty. Sure, it’s a different woman every night, but that’s just fine with her.

Too Long
Revisado: 03-26-22
Generally, I appreciate longer books that give me plenty of time to get into the characters and the story line. This book was sweet and the narration was very good, however the story wasn't strong enough to warrant taking nearly twelve hours to tell. I finished it, but it dragged.

Why such good reviews?
Revisado: 02-21-22
This book showed some promise at the start when the protagonists met in an unusual way. However, after this beginning, there was little to no character development. Throughout the story, one character was pleasant, but a pushover, and the other character seemingly represented the archetypical surgeon with an annoying temperament and a personality that showed virtually no redeeming values. Other than their being professional colleagues, it was difficult to understand how the main characters could possibly be compatible, let alone attracted to each other.
The author clearly knows her stuff with regard to surgical techniques, but the repeated descriptions of surgeries were too frequent and detracted from the flow of the story after a while. Overall, too much time was spent on the details of medical procedures and too little time was actually spent developing either the characters or a compelling story line.
