Historia
Renée Ballard and the LAPD’s Open-Unsolved Unit get a hot shot DNA connection between a recently arrested man and a serial rapist and murderer who went quiet twenty years ago. The arrested man is only twenty-four, so the genetic link must be familial: His father was the Pillowcase Rapist, responsible for a five-year reign of terror in the city of angels. But when Ballard and her team move in on their suspect, they encounter a baffling web of secrets and legal hurdles. Meanwhile, Ballard’s badge, gun, and ID are stolen.

From the Beginning
Revisado: 12-01-24
I could not get past Ballard leaving her keys in an obvious place while she went surfing. I know that was necessary for the story to work, but Holy Cow. Just mind-bogglingly stupid and that cast a pall over the rest of the story and that accounts for the three stars. I like the narration and the take on the Short tragedy was interesting, if flawed.

Historia
Twenty-four-year-old Saeris Fane is good at keeping secrets. No one knows about the strange powers she possesses or the fact that she has been picking pockets and stealing from the Undying Queen's reservoirs for as long as she can remember. But a secret is like a knot. Sooner or later, it is bound to come undone. When Saeris comes face-to-face with Death himself, she inadvertently reopens a gateway between realms and is transported to a land of ice and snow. The Fae have always been the stuff of myth, of legend, of nightmares… but it turns out they're real.

Waaaay Too Long
Revisado: 12-01-24
The male narrator is great, hence the three stars for that. The female sounds frantic no matter the situation. But, that is the way the author wrote her. This is my last romantasy. These things are all the same. A brooding, mysterious LM and an immature, whinny, annoying LF who ALWAYS has some sort of hidden talent/magic which makes up for their insufferable behavior. In this case, Whatshername whines and blows up at Every. Single. Thing. Even when there is nothing to be mad about she throws a fit. I do not understand how Fisher falls for this temper-tantrum woman child. Further, no one can survive on only 2-6 ounces of water per day. And if this LF has never used a brush or bathed, then one soak in the tub and a finger comb is not going to help much. And don't get me started on dental hygiene. Also annoying is how the starving female leads ALWAYS say they are not hungry when confronted with a plate full of food. Just stop already. And one more thing-this story has more bizarre situations than the movie Lifeforce. Maybe whack off ten hours and this could have worked. Three overall stars for imagination, but it went a bit too far.

Historia
After the killing of a prominent mob lawyer, NYPD homicide detectives Jacob Jackson and Caitlin Grimes start receive chilling, written “rules” for how to commit the perfect murder. "Rule number one for the perfect murder: Evidence is your enemy. Leave none behind." Jackson (Reid Scott) and Grimes (Cobie Smulders) race to find the killer, setting them on a collision course with the city’s crime underbelly, and a perpetrator who seems happy to toy with them. “Rule number two. No crimes of passion. The perfect murder is always business, never pleasure.”

Scott Brick is on Speed
Revisado: 12-01-24
Scott Brick has become almost unlistenable lately. In this one he sounds as if buttering toast is a life or death situation. If he spoke normally, the story might sound completely different. As it is, everything is frantic and dramatic. His narration is so bad that it makes this OX entry awful enough that I'm stopping in less than two hours. Sorry Hurwitz.

Tedious, Boring. Repetitive.
Revisado: 05-25-24
I almost did not get past Eyre's weirdly quivering voice the first hour of this story. It has always been off-putting, but she outdoes herself in this narration. Then had to deal with the most uninteresting aspect of the entire series which is the return of Jeffrey. His non-sensical treatment of his daughter is as bad as the relentless phrase drip drip drip Come here little hunter, taste. Then there is the endless mushy and sappy love that everyone has for one another. Clearly the author has run out of ideas so she drags in the ones we have already read or heard multiple times. The plot for this one is thin and the ones causing the havoc really are not big bads. Everyone is coupled up except for Kier. I have zero interest in any more of this unless the focus is on him. Am sorry I used a credit on this.

Historia
As the ash and chaos from Mount Rainier’s eruption swirled and finally settled, the story of the Greenloop massacre has passed unnoticed, unexamined...until now. The journals of resident Kate Holland, recovered from the town’s bloody wreckage, capture a tale too harrowing - and too earth-shattering in its implications - to be forgotten. In this audiobook, Max Brooks brings Kate’s extraordinary account to light for the first time, faithfully reproducing her words alongside his own extensive investigations into the massacre and the legendary beasts behind it.

Judy Greer's voice is so excruciating that I can't go on after only one hour. It's beyond horrible and painful. I am really po'd about this because I got this book on a two-for-one deal and now I lost the chance for another good book. All I can say is: beware. Save your hearing.

Tells it Like it Is
Revisado: 02-09-24
This is not a happy, uplifting story. It is ugly, brutal and probably triggering for some. The title is for the most part correct. I always trust that Koryta will tell a solid story, but that does not mean I have to like it. Am glad the bad guys got what was coming to them, but it was stressful to get to that point. There was one death too many for five stars, Not sure what else could have happened, however. Well done.

In the aftermath of the 2020 presidential election, Donald Trump and many around him, including certain other elected Republican officials, intentionally breached their oath to the Constitution: they ignored the rulings of dozens of courts, plotted to overturn a lawful election, and provoked a violent attack on our Capitol.

Terrifying
Revisado: 01-04-24
I do not agree with Liz Cheney's policies, but her views on the Constitution, honor, and honesty (even if you do not agree with those views) are absolutely on the mark. This book is well organized and suspenseful--even if you watched the hearings and know most of what she covers. It's like listening to a Fever Dream, Can this actually be reality? Yes. It is real. There is much to say about people who are deceitful, narcisstic and opportunistic, but it gets tiresome dealing with them. I just hope this book reaches those who are afraid to admit they have been wrong. Brava to Liz Cheney.

From the rich imagination of science-fiction great Alan Dean Foster comes the story of Midworld, a Humanx Commonwealth planet that's equally fragile and hostile. Covered by a lush rainforest, Midworld is home to a primitive society that lives in harmony with the natural world. But the arrival of an exploitative human company, whose workers know nothing of Midworld's delicate ecosystem, sparks a conflict. Should Midworld's villagers aid the humans or stand against them?

Basis for Avatar
Revisado: 01-04-24
I have always loved this book. Unique and consistently interesting. And there is no doubt that James Cameron used this as the basis for Avatar (but does not give credit where it is due). The narrator does a good job, although I envisioned Born as having a more distinctive accent. Regardless, this is real gem.
