Odysseus. Robinson Crusoe. Harry Potter. What do these memorable characters have in common? Why do we turn to certain stories again and again? And what impact have they made on world history? These 24 eye-opening lectures give fresh insight into some of the greatest heroes in world literature, from warriors such as Beowulf and Odysseus to unexpected heroes such as Uncle Tom and Sancho Panza. Professor Shippey gives you an inside glimpse into the writer's process.

Interesting at first.

What did you love best about Heroes and Legends?
Loved this book with some of its insightful discussions of the greater political work vs. individual struggles.
Any additional comments?
The author was awful in his descriptions of American westerns. What happened to "Shane", "The Virginian","The Searchers", Luis Lamour, Matt Braun and Zane Grey? He totally missed the mark on this.

What did you love best about The History of the United States, 2nd Edition?
I learned a lot that I didn't know -- particularly about Reconstruction.
Any additional comments?
I would like someone else to do the last segments. Not only were there errors, the instructor seemed biased.

Huh?
Revisado: 09-16-10
What is all this religious stuff about? This book has the potential to be a modestly good thriller, but there is just too much junk in the story. Did someone edit this? Did someone rewrite this?

Here is the previously untold story of Captain Janeway's crew. They began as individuals, following very different pathways, but together, under the leadership of one remarkable woman, they have become one of the finest teams in the known universe - the crew of the Voyager. Read by Robert Picardo!

Character backgrounds are great!
Revisado: 04-06-09
I love getting backstory for characters even if they are not "canonical". However Jeri Taylor contradicts the story of the show from time to time and she simply cannot get the idea of a Janeway/Chakotay romance out of her mind. Every book she has written throws them together and the "canonical" storyline doesn't. Give it up Jeri!
