Really good introduction to the troubles

A really good explanation of what went on. Only minor complaint, Narrator was very good and clear but sometimes a tiny bit boring. But great for the most part!

Factual error

The Gibraltar incident was attributed to an extreme sectarian faction in the book. This is inaccurate and can be confirmed as the army in contemporary media reporting as well as judgements from European court documents.

Absolutely outstanding

This book was an perfect listen for what I was looking for. It was filled with crucial information about the troubles and educated me with exactly what I needed/wanted to know about this fascinating part of history. I would highly recommend this to anyone with an interest in the troubles in Ireland, or anyone with a interest in history. Very entertaining!

very informative but slightly biased l.

very much downplays the fact that the famine was very much preventable. Glances over the fact that Cromwell believed that it was worth letting catholics die during the famine.

Not great

This is a very brief summary of the topic and unfortunately has quite a few very basic errors in fact such as the details on the Gibraltar shooting, the Loughgall incident and even using the wrong name for the largest unionist party in Northern Ireland. Fine if you just want an overview but avoid if you are looking for any kind of detail

powerful and perceptive

Having three Irish grandparents, one of my new years resolutions was to learn more about my history, this book did everything I wanted it to do and more, and I now feel much more educated on the subject. Very happy :)

As someone with Irish heritage I am massively interested in this topic. I stumbled across this and what a gem, I learnt things that I didn’t know before. A fantastic piece of writing, well researched, evidenced and written. Incredibly insightful, a must listen!

Great Listen

Really informative on a important subject! As someone who struggles with difficulty concentrating, I enjoyed how this book was easier to listen to than most history books
