About this listen

Brought to you by Penguin.

There's never been a better time to set new habits. This book will change your life.

Why do we do develop habits? And how can we change them?

We can always change. In The Power of Habit, award-winning New York Times business reporter Charles Duhigg translates cutting-edge behavioural science into practical self-improvement action, distilling advanced neuroscience into fascinating narratives of transformation.

Why can some people and companies change overnight and some stay stuck in their old ruts? The answer lies deep in the human brain, and The Power of Habits reveals the secret pressure points that can change a life. From Olympic swimmer Michael Phelps to Martin Luther King Jr., from the CEO of Starbucks to the locker rooms of the NFL, Duhigg explores the incredible results of keystone habits and how they can make all the difference between billions and millions, failure and success – or even life and death.

The Power of Habit makes an exhilarating case: the key to almost any door in life is instilling the right habit. From exercise to weight loss, child-rearing to productivity, market disruption to social revolution and above all success, the right habits can change everything.

Habits aren't destiny. They’re science, one which can transform our businesses, our communities and our lives.

Critic reviews

"It’s a fascinating insight into making and breaking habits and offers practical advice, funny stories and critical thinking." (Press Association)

"Plenty of business books that try to tap into the scientific world manage to distil complicated research into readable prose. But few take the next step and become essential manuals for business and living. The Power of Habit is an exception." (Andrew Hill, Financial Times)

"Full of great ideas" (Evening Standard)

One of the most engaging books in the genre

This is an intelligent read (okay, listen) with strong story telling throughout. I found it helped me understand habit loops and consequently start to develop behavioural change.

There is no secret sauce, just undeniable evidence that's put before you in a way that does not feel remotely repetitive and does not dip or fail.

If you want to remove, change or develop any habits at all, I recommend starting here.

Great book, shame about the reader.

Fantastic book, shame about the reader who kept trying to put on voices for different characters.

thought provoking

I enjoyed listening to this book. The author has taken a string of very interesting anecdotes, that would be worthy of a book by themselves, and links them all together with the idea that habit controls our lives. He makes a very good case for this and then suggest how we can improve our lives. As is often the case with self help books - I think that you need to read them rather than listen to them to help retain the key points...
very interesting though...

Better Than Imagined

Narrator was clear and animated, the book itself was insightful and practical, I learned so much and the examples made all the theory easy to understand. I definitely plan to apply what I've learned and I recommended it to friends before I even finished!

Fantastic book!

I found this book really interesting! I learnt how to view habits in a whole new different way! I will try to create a habit for exercising and living a healthier life.

Towards the final chapters it got a bit too much examples, but they were relevant.

I really enjoyed listening to this book, and the narrator was very engaging!

Thank you for sharing this wonderful book.
