About this listen
Sometimes you are a whisper away from magic without even realising it.
Nine is an orphan pickpocket determined to escape her life in the Nest of a Thousand Treasures. When she steals a house-shaped ornament from a mysterious woman’s purse, she knocks on its tiny door and watches it grow into a huge higgledy-piggeldy house. Inside she finds a host of magical and brilliantly funny characters, including Flabberghast - a young wizard who’s particularly competitive at hopscotch - and a hideous troll housekeeper who’s emotionally attached to his feather duster. They have been placed under an extraordinary spell, which they are desperate for Nine to break - and if she can, maybe they can offer her a new life in return....

the characters are great
loved it, just felt a bit short and feel like you need to read all the books to have a properly balanced beginning, middle and end.

Gripping and bonkers.
I love Amy’s style and imagination and I’m about to launch into Book 2 to see where the story goes. Writing a novel is hard but when it works, the characters live. 9 lives and, man, she better make it to Book 3!

Oliver Twist meets Howl's Moving Castle with a side of Pratchett.
Well, this was very jolly to listen to. Fun for an adult, never mind a young adult/pre-teen.
There's a definite nod to Oliver Twist with Pockets in the role of Fagin and the storyline with the house and witch is reminiscent of the brilliant Dianne Wynne Jones. I was reminded of Terry Pratchett & Neil Gaiman in parts too. A skilfull blend. I may just have to listen to the next in the series now!
I did find the narrator a tad annoying at times, but she wasn't too bad.
