Story
College professor Johanna Marshall swore she would never fall in love again. She especially did not want to become involved with someone who has a reputation as an extreme womanizer...someone like Kelly Sambino. But on a hot summer night, Jo finds herself unable to resist Kelly. What follows is something Jo would like very much to quickly forget. Embarrassed after their night of passion, Jo hopes she will never have to see Kelly again. Then, when Fall classes begin, Jo finds herself face to face with the college's new Literature Professor - Kelly Sambino.

Angst and sex...that's it

Jo is a pretty terrible person to be honest. Being a jealous and possessive person, punishing Kelly for doing nothing wrong except when her version of things isn't right. Ugh, honestly just thought she needed therapy and she didn't deserve Kelly.

Story
When Remy's grandmother dies, it means leaving her life in San Francisco and returning to a town she swore she'd never revisit, forced to confront a world she'd worked hard to put behind her over the last twelve years. She's not expecting that the first girl to ever steal her heart, the pretty, popular Fallon Lewis, is still around, and in a town this small, their paths continue to cross, much to Remy's dismay. It's hard enough seeing her first love, but it's exponentially more difficult when she can barely stand to look at the woman.

I really loved this story, and cannot ever fault Lori as a narrator. But the amount of times I wanted to stop listening just because of how the author kept saying "the blonde" and "the brunette" was nothing I've ever had before. it was so annoying for such a small thing. But omg seriously just say their names, you need to mention once who is what hair colour and that's enough for my wee brain to remember, I think they were called blonde or brunette more than their actual names....it was weird.

This seems to be just me but I struggled with this book. Still got 5 hours to go and maybe I should keep listening but this is the second time I've stopped it so that tells me I won't enjoy the rest. The devotion to family over everything, when that family is horrible and doesn't give a shit about you, is something I can never comprehend. Maybe I'm naive fine, but it seriously pissed me off. But even before all of that, I listened to HOURS of what was the main characters thoughts but barely any speaking, and the thoughts were all poetry and longing. Even during the sex scene, you could barely feel connected to any actual scene in your head because it was all just words of longing and ugh I couldn't stand it anymore.

I hate giving a bad review but this was a really weird book for me. I basically just listened to 8 hours of one of the main characters being an absolute bitch. I'm sorry but just because you've had some shitty times doesn't justify any of this even when she softened later in the book. Then about 3 hours of slow burn and it ended.
I also understand needing a villain but the way Laura let Rodney treat her and speak to her was just too much. Not enjoyable to read.
There was so many times things were said that I felt was purposely creating drama. Like we hadn't just had an entire book of drama jesus give me a break.
All of this meant when they finally got together I couldn't enjoy them as a couple because I was so sick of all the drama and meanness.

I don't know how I finished this other than thinking maybe it will get better. Kelsey needs therapy. Both women need to learn how to communicate. I get that it's a book and we need drama, but Jesus this did not give me any feel goods which I look for in a book. I usually love Jamie Clevinger books but this one was not my cup of tea. And there is angst aaaallll the way to the end.

I wanted to give 5 stars
Reviewed: 18-10-23
I loved this book... until the last hour. I don't mind a slow burn, but the whole point of one is that the human is then reinforced for waiting by getting a decent chunk of the good stuff. Instead we got angst and 10 minutes...I literally mean 10 minutes of them being together. A 5 minute conversation and kiss and a 5 minute epilogue. The rest was 5 stars but I couldn't ever listen again.

I feel it was drawn out to make a longer book but nothing interesting to draw it out. Just angst and more angst. If it was real life I would have hoped someone would have suggested therapy to Joss so she could stop acting like a child. And some of the lines were so cringe, I usually love Lori Price but I couldnt enjoy her with some of the things she had to say.

Reviewed: 21-05-23
Unfortunately just couldn't enjoy this one and wasn't able to return it half way through. I didn't really feel the chemistry between the characters from the start, Sophie apparently was attracted to Jules and had a crush but honestly didn't feel that way it was more like she was just bland and neutral about her. Even throughout the story it was like Sophie didn't have much personality or feelings, and there wasn't really a back story for that to make sense. Maybe it's just me but I felt like it was just a bit boring. Got slightly better the last couple hours but not worth it for me to listen again.
