Slightly spoiled by the main character going in the post office and asking for a 2nd class stamp. The implied period could be no later than the1960s and the 2nd class stamp was not introduced until 1993.(see page 161)

The scenario is impossible in Post Office post van. The rest of the story therefore is ludicrous.
The narrator is very poor. Don’t know how she got the job.

A further puzzle is that suicide closely attends each of the murders. As he tracks the killer through vast and seething London, Holmes finds himself battling both an envious Scotland Yard and a critical press as he follows a complex trail from performers to princes, anarchists to aesthetes.

Story
Like all great mysteries this begins with a corpse, five in fact, five and a bit if you count the severed head. This particular case has remained undisclosed for almost three decades. Sworn to secrecy, never to divulge the truth while the living were still at risk of reprisals. I've refrained from publishing or even speaking of those Regent's Park murders. It's only safe to do so now due to the fact that those involved are either dead or never to be found again. It remains one of the most astonishing moments in Holmes' career and exposes a shocking revelation about his character.

I enjoyed this book. However it had one flaw. A 19th cent. working girl would not use the American word fanny for her bottom. She would more likely use the word ar... Having said that I will more than likely read this book again. More like this D. G. Leigh, but please check English language usage and make your books 5*

I have enjoyed all the books in the series but found this a little disappointing. The conclusion was a little abrupt with no hits to the conclusion throughout the story. I would give it 3 1/2 but not worth 4.
