The narration is quite simply unbearable. On top of that, after having listened to Devra Lehmann - Spinoza, this one seems disorganised, uninteresting and dull.

Story
Reviled as a fascist by his great rival Ben-Gurion, venerated by Israel’s underclass, the first Israeli to win the Nobel Peace Prize, a proud Jew but not a conventionally religious one, Menachem Begin was both complex and controversial. Born in Poland in 1913, Begin was a youthful admirer of the Revisionist Zionist Ze’ev Jabotinsky and soon became a leader within Jabotinsky’s Betar movement.

Story
A masterpiece of deep learning and fine sensibility, Robert Alter's translation of the Hebrew Bible, now complete, reanimates one of the formative works of our culture. Capturing its brilliantly compact poetry and finely wrought, purposeful prose, Alter renews the Old Testament as a source of literary power and spiritual inspiration. From the family frictions of Genesis and King David's flawed humanity to the serene wisdom of Psalms and Job's incendiary questioning of God's ways, these magnificent works of world literature resonate with a startling immediacy.

Golda Meir was a world figure unlike any other. Born in tsarist Russia in 1898, she immigrated to America in 1906 and grew up in Milwaukee, where from her earliest years she displayed the political consciousness and organizational skills that would eventually catapult her into the inner circles of Israel's founding generation. Moving to mandatory Palestine in 1921 with her husband, the passionate socialist joined a kibbutz but soon left and was hired at a public works office by the man who would become the great love of her life.

This biography seems to have been written with a spirit of impartiality and a great amount of work and research. It gives a good insight into the formative years of the state of Israel and I cannot but admire the strength, generosity, bravery and determination of the people involved. Golda Meir bore a fair amount of the weight on her very capable shoulders. Admirable

When we’re struggling with uncertainty and confusion - in ourselves or in the world - what can we do to find calmness and clarity? Here, Dzogchen Ponlop Rinpoche shows us the way. The first step, he teaches, is to look closely at the tumult within us. And though it might sound paradoxical, the best place to start, he teaches, is not with our emotions, but with our thoughts

Story
In the autumn of 2020, Simon Barnes should have been leading a safari in Zambia, but COVID restrictions meant his plans had to be put on hold. Instead, he embarked on the only voyage of discovery that was still open to him. He walked to a folding chair at the bottom of his garden, and sat down. His itinerary: to sit in that very same spot every day for a year and to see - and hear - what happened all around him. It would be a stationary garden safari; his year of sitting dangerously had begun.

Dishonest and musleading
Reviewed: 02-02-24
I am saying that this book is dishonest, because the author seems more concerned with appearing a know-it-all than with transmitting clear and useful knowledge about composting. And as a direct result of this, the book is misleading and confusing, as he does not hesitate to state half truths and to be controversial for the sake of it.
to top it all up, the narrator speaks as if he had something in his mouth, which makes it most unpleasant to listen to.
