Too complicated and convoluted
Reviewed: 14-10-23
Not nearly as believable as the previous novel. So complex that it was difficult to follow. Struggled to listen to the end.

Shocking exposure of the reality of parliament.

Well written. Engaging. Depressing to understand the reality of parliament. It makes it easier to understand why government and parliament achieves so little, and so slowly. Probable the best primo is yet we never had!

Captivating and thought provoking

Captivating story based in real events. A different look at the atrocities of ww2 in Italy. Brings into sharp relief the part played by the Catholic Church in helping Nazi criminals escape justice.

Story
September 1919: 21-year-old Tristan Sadler takes a train from London to Norwich to deliver some letters to Marian Bancroft. Tristan fought alongside Marian’s brother Will during the Great War, but in 1917 Will laid down his guns on the battlefield, declared himself a conscientious objector and was shot as a traitor, an act which has brought shame and dishonour on the Bancroft family. But the letters are not the real reason for Tristan’s visit. He holds a secret deep in his soul. One that he is desperate to unburden himself of to Marian, if he can only find the courage.

Story
Imagine if you made one little mistake when you were young and were punished for it for the rest of your life. Well, that’s what happened to Lydia (yes, that Lydia, the youngest Bennet sister from Pride and Prejudice), and she’s here to set the record straight. Hold on to your teacups and get ready for sophisticated (and a little bit naughty) hot takes and witty banter that’ll make you laugh—and think. We meet Lydia just as she is denounced by her family, exiled miles from home, and married to the rogue George Wickham, who seems to love all women...except his own wife.

Story
Oberstdorf is a beautiful village high up in the Bavarian Alps, a place where for hundreds of years ordinary people lived simple lives while history was made elsewhere. Yet even here, in the farthest corner of Germany, National Socialism sought to control not only people’s lives but also their minds. Drawing on archive material, letters, interviews and memoirs, A Village in the Third Reich is an extraordinarily intimate portrait of Germany under Hitler, of the descent into totalitarianism and of the tragedies that befell all of those touched by Nazism.

Interesting and at times upsetting. Nonetheless a fascinating and enlightening piece of factual history. I must read a hard copy as it is easy to lose track of the different families and main players.
