I really enjoyed this book, and it was a great sequel. I like that most of the questions I had about the first book were answered in this one, and that we got to learn more about Astrid and the Fae, and what was happening with Gandel. It picks up right where the first left off, and explores what's happened since then. I loved that Mer actually went through some nice character development and didn't just do a 180 on her feelings, even if she was infuriatingly stubborn at times. I definitely found Avry more interesting this time around, since he's the more of the main character in this one. I was great to hear more of his thoughts and about his past. The ending was great also. The narrator is a different one from the first book, maybe because it's told more in Avry's point of view this time. It definitely threw me off at first, but I got used to it quickly and it really fit the book really well. I received a free review copy of this book.

I loved this book. It was really interesting to hear about the past and the war that had already been referenced a few times. It definitely didn't turn out quite like I expected. Though from her name I did expect exactly who Ewan's female ancestor was once she was introduced. The new characters were all really interesting and fun, and I enjoyed that Martin was a large part of it. His banter with Ewan is always fun. Ryan's side of the story honestly didn't interest me quite as much at first, just because the past and Shannon's condition seemed more interesting, but it picked up pace eventually and I was just as enthralled with his quest to find his son. Riley really deserved what was coming to him, I was kinda surprised it didn't happen sooner. I really enjoyed Shannon in this too, especially when she stood up to Riley. I was kinda worried her and Ryan's lie to Riley would make it back to Edmond, since he was a bit suspicious before, but luckily that didn't happen. I felt bad for Martin, he seemed to have such good chemistry with Raga(dunno how to spell it)! It's so sweet that their lines merge eventually though!
As always, the narration was amazing! The epilogue especially, I really liked how she made them sound older but still like them.

Though Shannon and Ewan aren't on great terms for most of this book, it was really interesting to hear the dynamic between him, Ryan, and Shannon. The plot was really interesting too, and left me wondering what would happen next for a while. I don't think this book was as heavy on the foreshadowing as the first two, but man is it irritating how many issues could've been avoided if everyone communicated honestly haha. But that's the same as in life, and there were clear reasons why some of them didn't spill everything sooner. I think this book really helped flesh out all the characters even more, and even though Ewan is infuriatingly stubborn for much of this, I can really sympathize with him and understand why. I really like Ryan as a character, and honestly think he would've been amazing for Shannon if it wasn't for her relationship with Ewan. Will was a great addition too. The ending was great, and I was smiling like an idiot at the wall for the last bit.
The narration, as always, is amazing and spot on with emotions and accents.

Like the first book, this is a bit heavy on the foreshadowing, though not as much as before. I really like the new characters that were introduced, especially Ryan. It's interesting to see the dynamic between him, Ewan, and Shannon. I wanted to dislike Ryan at first just because I usually don't appreciate any kind of love triangle, but he's a really complex and likeable character. I really enjoyed that this one started to go a bit more into detail with some of the 'magic' in this world, even if not much. I guess it is something that'd be hard to explain in detail, especially as complex as it seems. The ending was really emotional(and honestly, it made me cry even if I saw it coming a mile away).
I mentioned it in my review of the first book, but gotta say it again: the narration is amazing! The narrator puts so much emotion into her lines and I think it's the best part about what makes me immerse myself in the story and care so much about the characters.

Great book and narration!

I enjoyed this book, and so far I'm really enjoying the series also(currently listening to book 3). I'm a sucker for dragon books to be honest. I love how descriptive everything is and a lot of scenes and characters are easy to picture while listening. The narration is on point also, with a good range of voices and emotions. It makes it that much easier to immerse myself in the world. The characters feel very real and complex, and what little politics it goes over is simple(thankfully).
I only had a couple things that I found a bit irksome. First, the foreshadowing was pretty heavy handed, so the latter half of the book was pretty predictable(and a bit infuriating waiting for them to finally realize who the big bad is). Also, the romance felt a bit...maybe not quite forced, but definitely rushed. The main characters are told by others that they're obviously in love, more than we really get to see it develop. But, it is a fairly short book so that's probably why. Overall, I still really enjoyed it and am looking forward to finishing the series.
I received a free copy of this book, and just wanted to share my honest thoughts on it.

I really loved this and can't wait to jump into the second book. It's easy to visualize the world and it's wonders, and the history and lore it builds is interesting and suspenseful. I like how a lot of things come full circle in it, little things mentioned early on get more attention later on and you have that "oh, that's why they said/did that!". I love stuff like that. (On that note, the only thing I found weird is how much of the story is explained in the summary. It kinda goes over everything but the last hour, just seems to give a little too much detail, but that's just my opinion. Luckily I had only seen a summary on Facebook that had been a lot more vague, and I think I enjoyed it better that way than if I'd seen the audible summary.) The narration was also great, if a bit confusing at a few times. Sometimes when characters where talking, especially repeating back questions, it was a bit hard to follow. The voices that the narrator uses don't sound very different so it's harder to tell who's talking by just the voice. The whispering was great though, and I loved it.
