Brilliant war time book
Reviewed: 03-07-24
This is my first Lynn Austin book and I’ve already downloaded a few others. The book expertly weaves through the lives of the main characters, teaching us along the way the history of the era, the hard fought battles (not always on a literal war theatre) and how important it is to love.
The characters are realistic, life like ordinary people with the struggles, hopes, dreams and heartache of war.
Highly recommend this book.

Too much sex
Reviewed: 21-12-23
Thought this would be a good storyline and it was. But far far too much sex. Had to continually push the forward button as this is really not my genre. Shame as the storyline was good and could really have gone somewhere without all the sex

So, really enjoyed this from beginning to end. Don’t pretend that I understood all the physics and time warp stuff but a really good, very far fetched sci fi full of twists and turns…and a really good ending. Buying book 2 to listen to it ASAP

I listened to about the first 6 chapters then skipped to the end chapter. I couldn’t actually bear to listen to another marriage unwind itself only for them to find ‘true love’ with others. Sport but it was not for me.

Got this on recommendation and have been so disappointed in the book, especially the second half which I’ve had to skip so many parts owing to continual sexual content and overuse of the ‘f’ word. A four generational story sounded like a great story but sadly failed to deliver big time.

Story
Marvellously atmospheric tale of strangers summoned to a grand but neglected villa on the Italian coast. Each of them has been named in a will, but nobody knows their benefactress.... Four very different people are named in a will. Delia, an opera singer robbed of her voice by illness; George, an idealistic scientist who cannot face what his skills have created; Marjorie, desperately poor and unable to dislodge her writer’s block; and Lucius, ostensibly in control but whose personal life is in chaos.

Hudson survived his perilous maiden voyage to his beloved China. With his heart set in determined obedience to God, and trusting the provision of the One who had called, Hudson overcame persecution and almost overwhelming personal losses to bring to bring God's truth to the "ripe harvest fields" of China. Today, Hudson Taylor's story continues to challenge and inspire believers young and old to carry the anchoring gospel message, regardless of personal trial or hardships, to those who are adrift and without hope.

I’ve read the large biographies of Hudson Taylor in the past. Theo’s is a good overview of his life although it doesn’t go into nearly as much details as the big tomes. Nevertheless it’s still a good listen to.
