Story
Life with Picasso, written with Carlton Lake, is about Picasso the artist and Picasso the man. We hear him talking about painting and sculpture, his life, his career, as well as other artists, both contemporaries and old masters. We glimpse Picasso in his many and volatile moods, dismissing his work, exultant over his work, entertaining his various superstitions, being an anxious father. But Life with Picasso is not only a portrait of a great artist; it is also a picture of a talented young woman of exacting intelligence at the outset of her own notable career.

Fascinating listen

This story was fascinating. Francois discusses her relationship with Picasso so frankly. It was interesting to hear about their relationship with matisse & other amazing artists. Hearing how Picasso lived during Nazi occupied France and how he protected Matisse and his own art works.
It was also interesting to hear how Francois didn’t loose herself to Picasso and how she navigated her own career and his narcissism.
The book was well written & well read in my opinion. Thank you

Story
Hailed by readers/listeners and critics across the country, this engrossing biography of Mexican painter Frida Kahlo reveals a woman of extreme magnetism and originality, an artist whose sensual vibrancy came straight from her own experiences: her childhood near Mexico City during the Mexican Revolution; a devastating accident at age eighteen that left her crippled and unable to bear children; her tempestuous marriage to muralist Diego Rivera and intermittent love affairs with men as diverse as Isamu Noguchi and Leon Trotsky; her association with the Communist Party.

This book was fantastic. I thoroughly enjoyed listening to the Adventures Gertrude Bell went on throughout her life and respect she earned from all whom she met.
From dessert crossings, to mountain climbing (in a dress) to sitting for a portrait from J S Sargent.
to supporting a King assend his thrown. To building a museum for the communities of Bagdad. This book gave great insight into a wonderful and complex culture, I know little of due to today's political situation.
what a women.

Story
Britain has been defined by its conflicts, its conquests, its men and its monarchs. To say that it's high time it was defined by its women is a severe understatement. Jenni Murray draws together the lives of 21 women to shed light upon a variety of social, political, religious and cultural aspects of British history. In lively prose Murray reinvigorates the stories behind the names we all know and reveals the fascinating tales behind those less familiar.

Although this list of 21 women was a personal choice if the author and some I would not perhaps chosen for myself. it was a fascinating listen. but that being said, what a difficult choice only picking 21 women who have changed the course of British history.
From this book, I will take away gratitude and appreciation of my current position and standing within society in consideration of my gender.
I think Jenny Murray would make my top 21 list should I be brave enough to draft one.

Story
Penelope Lively has always been a keen gardener. This audiobook is partly a memoir of her own life in gardens: the large garden at home in Cairo where she spent most of her childhood, her grandmother's garden in a sloping Somerset field, then two successive Oxfordshire gardens of her own and the smaller urban garden in the North London home she lives in today. It's also a wise, engaging exploration of gardens in literature, from Paradise Lost to Alice in Wonderland.

Great book if you love listening to all things plants. I'm not sure what the story was ? more a waffle on how amazing gardening is and how it has been perceived throughout the centuries.
I liked learning about other garden writers. I will now go and check them out.
it was nice when the author reflected on children's films on the subject like 'The secret garden'. The author jumps from topic to topic but not in a bad way. Maybe we share a similar inner narrative on all things garden's & plants.
Pleasent listen. Great Narrator. As a garden lover I could listen to her waffle all day 😊 @bekindtoyoursoul_plants

Story
Korede is bitter. How could she not be? Her sister, Ayoola, is many things: the favorite child, the beautiful one, possibly sociopathic. And now Ayoola's third boyfriend in a row is dead. Korede's practicality is the sisters' saving grace. She knows the best solutions for cleaning blood, the trunk of her car is big enough for a body, and she keeps Ayoola from posting pictures of her dinner to Instagram when she should be mourning her 'missing' boyfriend. Not that she gets any credit.

In Susan Orlean's mesmerizing true story of beauty and obsession is John Laroche, a renegade plant dealer and sharply handsome guy, in spite of the fact that he is missing his front teeth and has the posture of al dente spaghetti. In 1994, Laroche and three Seminole Indians were arrested with rare orchids they had stolen from a wild swamp in south Florida that is filled with some of the world's most extraordinary plants and trees. Laroche had planned to clone the orchids and then sell them for a small fortune to impassioned collectors.

I didn't get it
Reviewed: 16-09-20
I thought the book was completely bizarre. it jumped from topic to topic to place to person? I kept feeling like I had missed something? some plot point but no.
The narrator spoke like she was building up to something but I had no idea what? and I never got the point. There was no character building. No middle or end.
I did enjoy hearing about the history of orchid hunters. That's a fascinating subject that appeared to be well researched. I liked hearing about the Orchid shows in America and how crazy Americans are about their plants (us British are the same) the historical element was interesting but the narrator annoyed me.
I am glad it's over to be honest.
