Story
Jack Kross only wanted to play the game. Now he’s fighting for his life. When a mysterious hacker takes control of Hundred Kingdoms, Jack is trapped inside the fantasy VR world along with millions of other players. But Jack is in a worse predicament. He’s cornered in the very tower the terrorists have taken as their base; the only free player left within its walls. Even worse, in the real world, his body lies in a sweltering room with no hope of relief.

A refreshing and enjoyable take on LitRPG
Reviewed: 17-05-19
All too often in these sorts of stories the main character ignores the crafting/profession elements of the game they are in as a distraction for their questing/levelling or the author does as a distraction from the plot, but this went the other way. The main character chose a class that is mostly ignored by others as worthless or no fun and found a way to make it work. It was fun to read how he crafted his way out of or around problems and made for a refreshing change.
There were all the elements you expect in a LitRPG story, with stats, character sheets and quests but without going over the top. The writing style was relaxed and reading it flowed easily, drawing me into the story until I frequently realised I had been reading far longer than I had intended!
Here"s hoping for a sequel about the further exploits of Zoran...
The performances were excellent imbuing the dialog with real emotion that can sometimes not come across all that well when reading. The narration was crisp and clear, summarising stats etc for some of the game elements that people can sometimes complain about in LitRPG audible stories.

Story
The Resistance is fractured. The remaining survivors are buckling under the might of the malicious Tyrant King. Enter Roark von Graf, hedge mage, lesser noble of Traisbin, and one of the last freedom fighters. Desperate and unhinged, Roark crafts one final attempt to overthrow the king. The plan goes awry, and Roark finds himself tumbling headfirst into an interdimensional portal. On the other side, he finds himself stranded in an unexpected place - an ultra-immersive fantasy video game called Hearthworld.

Not your average dungeon story

First the bad news - now I have another series I am going to have to follow!
Now the good news - same as the bad news!
I loved this new take on the dungeon story. The main character is not a gamer sucked into their game nor a hero who becomes the dungeon that they keep raiding, but a somewhat flawed (mostly) good guy from another fantasy world who gets transported into a dungeon mob. I loved the scene where they wake up in the new body and try to come to terms with their game interface with no frame of reference for what they are seeing.
The story is well written and the characters interesting. The story finishes at a suitable point, not with a cliffhanger but definitely leaving you wanting more.
Nick makes an excellent job of narrating the story providing a number of voices for the characters that fit well with the written description.
Definitely recommend

Story
January 2043. The Vogthar Horde has come, and they bring real death with them. Not even players are safe from the power of Malware Blades. Worse, the Realm of Order, dominion of the Overmind Sophia, is in danger - slowly being corrupted by an ancient evil, the Lich Priest. And if he is successful, it could mean the end of Sophia and the downfall of the Crimson Alliance. Grim Jack never thought he’d find himself siding with the Empire, but now that this terrible new threat has arrived, making friends of old enemies may be the only way to survive.

A great performance of a great story

This story seemed more of a side quest rather than a continuation of the main story line (or main quest). A highly significant and major side quest.
It also blurs some of the previously well-defined lines between the good guys and the bad guys leaving you with a much more realistic shades-of-grey view of the VGO world.
The performance is enjoyable with distinctive and, at times, amusing voices for all the characters and “system messages”.
