Reasonably good advise in one place. I particularly thought her advice on finances were level-headed and considered. What I really found annoying was the continuous prompts to go to her website. This changes her overall message from trying to be informative to being overwhelmingly self promoting.

I really enjoy Dr McMillan's podcasts. They share the latest science in an accessible way. I like that she will tell you when the scientific evidence is not conclusive as yet.

This book gives a review of many of the currently popular algorithms underpinning the advances in AI that are highly hyped in a manner that is accessible to a lay person. It then goes on to explain the limitations of these algorithms. I highly recommend this book!
As for the narrator, excellent performance as always!

Excellent story with compelling characters. Also loved the epilogue. I will love to see the epilogue turned into a book. I love this author's books and have read them all. I am very glad to see her books on Audible, but please get a better narrator. The narration started off reasonably well, but as it progressed, it became rather bad - probably the worst narration I have encountered this far.

I have read a number of Karin Kallmaker's books and they are all well written with decent stories. This one I think is possibly her best. It is really very well written with rich and interesting characters. She shows an economy and precision of language to capture a moment or emotion concisely without belabouring the point.

Abby Craden as usual has performed these characters exquisitely. I particularly liked the voice and accent she has given Lady Diana Beckinsale.

Pretentious pseudo science and high pithed chimes

I really wanted to like this book. First, the idea of having control over your thoughts and in particular undesirable intrusive thoughts is indeed something to encourage. It is also useful to realize that one is not to strive for the absence of thoughts, but rather the awareness of ones thoughts in terms of thoughts that are constructive versus thoughts that are destructive. Hence mindfulness describes the intended objective perfectly.

However, there are a number of reasons why I struggle to like this book:
1. The language of this text is pretentious and often the same could be said using simpler sentences and simpler vocabulary.
2. Shooting from the hip. I.e., he states that the majority of scientists are not creative, which is obviously nonsense. He then goes on to say that for scientists to be more creative they have to think less. This goes against research of, for example Mihaly Csikszentmihaly, which describes the necessary steps for creativity as preparation, incubation, insight, evaluation and elaboration, which in fact depends on lots of thinking. Thinking is not the problem. Uncontrolled thinking and lack of focus is the problem.
3. That a book contains some statements that do not stand up to critical evaluation is common and not for me necessarily a reason to not like a book since we are all prone to various cognitive biases. Though, this book buys-in to a lot of new age mumbo jumbo and related magical thinking.
4. I might have been able to endure this book, but the high pitched chimes broke my sense of flow every now and again. I wish the description of this book stated the use of annoying high pitched chimes every 10 minutes.

I would much rather recommend listening to Waking Up by Sam Harris.

Expert scientific knowledge provided in an easily digestible manner. Yes, at times I got a bit overwhelmed by the details, but then the summary of each chapter helped to highlight the key points and the last chapter iterated the key points again. It was wonderful to listen to dietary information where the difference between and scientific fact and hypothesis was made so clear. I will definitely seek out other writings of Dr McMillan.
