Horrowing, but brilliantly written
Reviewed: 02-12-23
This book brought to mind Stephen King's book, the Institute, but the story is totally different. I didn't guess the end of this one, and there were many twists and turns throughout the story. I don't read this author as much as I should, and I will definitely now put Helen Fields on my favourite author list.

Story
In 2019, Johannes Radebe became the first male dancer to perform in heels in Strictly Come Dancing history. Wearing black patent leather boots, Johannes danced with a red 'Pose' fan to a rendition of Blondie's Rapture. Two years on, Johannes was part of only the second same-sex pair on the show, dancing with Great British Bake-Off winner, John Whaite and though they were runners up and the response from the UK public was overwhelmingly positive, Johannes still faced abuse that highlighted the continuing fight against homophobia and racism.

Refreshing, and sad in places
Reviewed: 02-12-23
Being an ardent Strictly fan, I had to read this, and Jojo is one of my favourite dancers. I had to weep when I heard his early life story, and burts of pride as he learned to dance. He has an endearing joy within his heart, which comes out into his words as he reads. I hope he writes more, going into more detail, and I will definitely read that as well.

Another exciting episode for John Milton
Reviewed: 02-12-23
Mark Dawson never disappoints, each Milton book gets better with every title. This time, once more, it;s a race for his life, while helping others to hold on to their lives. I listened this is in a little over 24 hours adter buying it. I know that the next book will be just as exciting, and each one that comes out is better than the one that came before. Once I have listened, I am a little disappointed that I didn't make it last longer.

Story
A missing person report is not usually something that Hamish Macbeth sees as cause for undue distress. Should a child or a vulnerable person vanish, it's an urgent matter that needs to be treated seriously, but in Macbeth's experience, most other people who go missing tend to turn up again before long. So when Kate Hibbert disappears after having last been seen struggling along the road with a heavy suitcase, he is convinced she has gone travelling and reluctantly goes through the motions of investigating.

This lovely, lively story sees Hamish getting shot at on a beach, a far cry from the benign thefts in his village. It's a book that flows seamlessly, and entertains from beginning to end.

December 1864. As a cold winter wind scours the Worcestershire countryside, an excursion train comes through a tunnel in the Malvern Hills, only to be confronted by a blockage on the line ahead. The driver manages to slow the train down so that the impact is minimised, but the passengers are alarmed. The first person to alight is Cyril Hubbleday, the man in charge of the excursion. He walks to the front of the locomotive—and, as he is talking to the driver, fireman and guard, he is shot dead by a sniper.

Tom Bowers book, Revenge, has a lot more interest in it, and much more interesting.

Story
Kate Irving arrives at her grandfather’s cottage at Frenchman’s Creek in the dead of night with her young son, a small suitcase and little else. Its scattered community of fishermen, farmers, artists and jetsetters barely bat an eyelid, because theirs is a rarefied world, tucked beneath the lush forest that lines the banks of the Helford Estuary, deep in the heart of Cornwall, where life is slow and people generally mind their own business. Unless, of course, your grandfather happens to be a pillar of the local community....
