Shame about being ripped off
Reviewed: 24-09-24
This story is fantastic. I got hooked some time ago and have been watching and waiting for the next parts.
I know all the characters now, love that the story never seems to go where you think it will, and am completely invested.
Which is the point right? Now for the negative…
The first 21 parts were all 10 hours and longer. These latest releases….not even 5 hours. I blinked and it was finished.
Not only does it mean it costs twice as much but the story is over before it’s begun meaning you cannot easily reconnect with the story or the characters. And after such a long wait, I kinda felt that was important.
I’m so grumpy about it. I feel like I have been duped and don't want to get the rest…but I will of course because I am a sucker and am hooked, which then makes me grumpier. Grumpy grumpy old me…
Shame on you for taking advantage of your loyal readers and making them permanently grumpy
Despite this, I cannot recommend this series enough. If you are wondering whether you could get into a zombie story (not my bag at all)… don’t debate it, do it. You will thank me and yourself for making such an excellent decision
A contributing factor to this? The absolutely, fantastic, top notch, on point narrator. They guy is so good I went hunting for other books he had narrated and ended up listening to some kids book by mistake 😂 that’s my “recommended” feed done for, for a while…
In summary dive in, the story is beyond excellent and Joe Jameson is the god of narration. You will NOT be disappointed.
Until you realise you have been conned… 5 hours, come on people, get a grip

Story
In 2016, the morning after Valentine's Day, Luke's son passed away from breathing issues complicated by congenital birth defects. He was 21 months old. And his name was Finnegan. This kind of loss is terrifyingly huge and scary, but the love and light in this story far outweigh the tragedy. Through comic-book metaphors, Shakespeare references, and lilting Irish brogues, Luke tells the story of his too-short time with Finn. This is his tribute to storytelling, parenthood, and his rosy-cheeked, blue-eyed baby boy.

I love Luke Daniels as a narrator anyway, it’s one of the reasons I chose this book.
However the story, the way it’s put together, the characters and the aftermath along with it all being set around reports made this a brilliant listen.
I have been jumping around books and authors for a while, trying to find something to capture me and this truly did. Thank you mr author and I hope many others chose to listen

The concept and story is great, I love it
It gets affected by the dramatic voice of the narrator that, at times, makes you feel like it’s a porn movie 😂
Shame really, I might just read the book rather than listen so I can enjoy the story

Story
For 40 years, Colony 3245.12 has been Ofelia’s home. On this planet far away in space and time from the world of her youth, she has lived and loved, weathered the death of her husband, raised her one surviving child, lovingly tended her garden, and grown placidly old. And it is here that she fully expects to finish out her days - until the shifting corporate fortunes of the Sims Bancorp Company dictates that Colony 3245.12 is to be disbanded, its residents shipped off, deep in cryo-sleep, to somewhere new and strange and not of their choosing.

I tried so hard to get into this book but so many references to this guys ego. It’s like it’s been written by a 13 year old wanting to be a grown up. Awful storyline. The o my reason I stuck around f is because of the narrator.

Narrator ruins the story unfortunately
Reviewed: 30-04-22
I am half way through and have only stuck with it because it’s a great story. But the narrator! She just reads and reads in the exact same up and down lilt in her voice which is driving me insane. Such a shame as the actual storyline is very original and I am trying desperately to get past the narrator in order to try and enjoy the story.
Please get this redone with someone who knows how to read an audio book

Best one yet
Reviewed: 10-03-22
It’s difficult to say that this is the best one yet, as each book has been amazing. I am gutted to find I don’t have any more to listen to and am going to have to wait for further releases!
This one took a different turn in the telling of the story, with readings from the characters from their own diary writings. Absolute genius way to go with the story, some of it hilariously funny which made me laugh out loud, Dave’s diary entries are just classic, and then so sad it made me cry.
I love the changing storyline, the changing characters. Lily going from little miss perfect into Princess Lily, cold witch from hell. Cookie seemingly so cocky but clearly has something he is hiding from Charlie.
I did get a bit confused with slight changes in the characters voices, Tappy seemed to undergo a voice change in this book which changed her character for me.
Boys voice though, so damned grating I had to skip over when he was talking 😂
But I am convinced that Joe Jameson cannot be the only narrator, the voices are so good!
I am now sad that I don’t have these characters in my life until the next one comes out but am exceptionally glad that this story still has a long way to run.
Excellent story and excellent narration. Highly recommended series and RR Haywood is on my top 10 list of Authors, along with Luke Smitherd.
