Story
In 1997, Charlie Lewis is the kind of boy you don't remember in the school photograph. His exams have not gone well. At home he is looking after his father, when surely it should be the other way round, and if he thinks about the future at all, it is with a kind of dread. Then Fran Fisher bursts into his life and despite himself, Charlie begins to hope. But if Charlie wants to be with Fran, he must take on a challenge that could lose him the respect of his friends and require him to become a different person.

Loved the links to R&J, the humour and the realism. Each of the characters were well drawn and I loved the narrator’s reading of the novel.

Story
In this rich and memorable evocation of the fictional South Riding of Yorkshire are the lives, loves and sorrows of the central characters. There is Sarah Burton, fiery young headmistress; Robert Carne of Maythorpe Hall, a councillor tormented by his own disastrous marriage; Jo Astell, a socialist fighting poverty and his own illness; and Mrs Beddows, the first woman Alderman of the district (like Winifred's own mother).

I had goosebumps as the ending was read. A fantastic story with convincing characters. I’ve gardened, cleaned and thinned my wardrobe whilst listening - a moving story to potter to. I will definitely re-listen to this at some stage.

Loved this from start to finish. The reading of it was superb - it was like listening to a stage performance. Did the reader as narrator genuinely cry at one stage?
Well drawn characters and startling events - it’s humbling to be immersed in the drama - the tension is beautifully drawn. A talented writer combined with an incredible performer.

Story
In this intimate and funny collection of essays on the sometimes confusing, sometimes poignant, sometimes hilarious condition of being a woman over 60, Susan Moon keeps her sense of humor and she keeps her listener fully engaged. Among the pieces she has included here are an essay on the gratitude she feels for her weakening bones; observations on finding herself both an orphan and a matriarch following the death of her mother; musings on her tendency to regret the past.

Story
England, May 1536. Anne Boleyn is dead, decapitated in the space of a heartbeat by a hired French executioner. As her remains are bundled into oblivion, Thomas Cromwell breakfasts with the victors. The blacksmith's son from Putney emerges from the spring's bloodbath to continue his climb to power and wealth, while his formidable master, Henry VIII, settles to short-lived happiness with his third queen. Cromwell is a man with only his wits to rely on; he has no great family to back him, no private army.

Everyone must read this. I listened to it as I packed to move house and then unpack and I was immersed in the story. I occasionally read the story in hardback as well - sometimes as I listened to audible but more often separately. Audible suits me because it allows me to keep busy as I listen.
This trilogy was fascinating and Ben Miles’ reading of it was superb. His interpretation was much better than the voices I’d’ve created as I read. I shall start the process again soon and listen to all three again.
