Story
All her life, Spensa has dreamed of becoming a pilot. Of proving she's a hero like her father. She made it to the sky, but the truths she learned about her father were crushing. The rumours of his cowardice are true - he deserted his flight during battle against the Krell. Worse, though, he turned against his team and attacked them. Spensa is sure there's more to the story. And she's sure that whatever happened to her father in his starship could happen to her. When she made it outside the protective shell of her planet, she heard the stars - and it was terrifying.

Brilliant. The story never let's up, and surprises throughout. The narrator has a phenomenal range of accents and kept me completely enthralled. Couldn't recommend this series highly enough.

Amazing plot and superb narration.

I read these books a couple of years ago and enjoyed them thoroughly. When they popped up on Audible I immediately bought them (once I'd sampled the narrator's skill). Worth every penny.
The plot, characters and pace of the story are brilliant, but the highlight was the narrator. He was skilled at making the voices distinctive and actually brought the characters to life far better than my own imagination had when I'd read them. He was also excellent with different accents. He was brilliant and I look forward to listening to him in the next two books in the series.
I will also keep my eye out for any other narration he does in future picks.
Excellent purchase in every way.

Great plot, but the accents were poor.

Thought it was a great plot, fast-moving and engaging and made me want to keep coming back to it every moment I had. However, the narrator's accents, particularly the British dialects, were very poor. I'm talking cringe-worthy.
Not sure if it's because I'm a Brit but cannot express how terrible the accents were.
Will be avoiding this narrator in future titles if there are anything other than American accents in the storyline.

Story
Do you need my help? It was always the first question he asked. They called him when they had nowhere else to turn. Raised and trained as part of a top-secret programme, he was sent to the worst places in the world to do things his government denied any knowledge of. Then he broke with the programme and disappeared. But now someone's on his tail. Someone who knows he was once known simply as Orphan X.

Excellent narration of an excellent book.

I read all of this series a while back and because I enjoyed them so much, and they were suitably fast-paced that I wouldn't remember too much of the plots, I bought the audio version.
It did not disappoint. Largely because the story is excellent but also because the narrator, Scott Brick, is outstanding. He can actually do accents well (unlike some shockers I've heard elsewhere), he alters the tone of his voice to represent different characters clearly, and I love that he also adjusts his pace when things start kicking off to convey tension.
Epic listen and highly recommended. Going onto book 2 shortly.
