Story
Through even the joyous and innocent memories, the pain of Davies" lifelong grief and profound betrayal is unfiltered, searing and beautifully articulated. Just Ignore Him is not only an autobiography, it is a testament to a survivor"s resilience and courage.

Story
In A Presumption of Death, Jill Paton Walsh tells how World War II changed the lives of Peter, Harriet and their growing family. The story opens in 1940. Harriet Vane - now Lady Peter Wimsey - has taken her children to safety in the country. But the war has followed them: glamorous RAF pilots and even more glamorous land-girls scandalise the villagers; the blackout makes the nighttime lanes as sinister as the back alleys of London.

Once or twice I wondered whether DLS would have used a certain phrase, but overall it was excellent - first class characterisation and plot. And read perfectly by the splendid Ian Carmichael who hailed from my home town of Hull, East Yorkshire.

I’ve read the pics author’s pioneer stories, and enjoyed them, but I think this story demonstrates lyrical, poetic writing. The characters come to life, and although not a great deal happens, the blend of characters and the wonderfully expressive reading made it very special.

The Night Hawks, a group of metal detectorists, are searching for buried treasure when they find a body on the beach in North Norfolk. At first Nelson thinks that the dead man might be an asylum seeker but he turns out to be a local boy, Jem Taylor, recently released from prison. Ruth is more interested in the treasure, a hoard of Bronze Age weapons. Nelson at first thinks that Taylor"s death is accidental drowning, but a second death suggests murder.
