A fantastic tale. Couldn't put it down.

What a wonderful story which encapsulates fairytales, but not in the Disney sense, The book draws you and stirs the imagination. The feelings of grief and jealousy felt by a young boy and his anger is used to drag him into another world where his adventures cause him to grow up and deal with his emotions and realise his mistakes. The ending is wonderful.
Brilliantly narrated, great character definitions and very emotive.

Iit was an OK story. The plot was fairly easy to understand what was happening. Was not impressed with narrators attempt at a Norfolk (Noorfok) accent. It was more West Country. The accents are very different.

Story
Punching well above their weight, Max and Markham set out to bring down a sinister organisation founded in the future—with a suspicious focus on the past. Max's focus is staying alive long enough to reunite with Leon and Matthew, alternately helped and hindered by St Mary's—who aren't always the blessing they like to think they are. But non-stop leaping around the timeline—from witnessing Magna Carta to disturbing a certain young man with a penchant for gunpowder—is beginning to take its toll. Is Max going mad? Or are the ghosts of the past finally catching up with her?

What can I say. Yet another brilliant story from the Chronicles of Saint Mary's. Jodi Taylor is an enthralling author, drawing you into all the adventures. Great humour, determination, disasters, loyalty and family. Their adversaries are deviant but Max! Leon, Markham and Peterson, to name just a few, are always up to the task.
Zara Ramm's performance, as ever, is outstanding.

Not my general genre but I thought I'd have a listen. Very well written with distinctive characters. The narrator read it well portraying the characters.
As for the story it was slow going and I felt I was wading through the mud of the Blackwater shoreline. I did think Stella just a bit too trusting though ramblings through her deteriorating did make her sound like she tripping on hallucinogens.

Another full and enigmatic book in this saga. The various trials and tribulations of being a Magelord. Creating a wonderful place to live, building villages and defences;meeting neighbouring Vales for good or bad, housing the refugees and partaking in another epic goblin war. Minilan had to learn fast about the politics, with the help of Penny and Sir Kay. The new king is coronated. There are fairs, love and children and a whole lot more. Generally a superb listen.

Well written leading the reader on lots of twists and turns. The clues are there but very subtle. The way the way she was ostracised by those who she'd known for years purely based on rumour and innuendo. The description of her grief and her anger as the truth was uncovered. All in all an excellent read.
