Story
Where is the life God promised us? Life is busy. We live like slaves to our fast-paced, suffocating schedules. We spend our energy and time in triviality, relegating God to the background. He seems distant to us, and we resist the idea that God wants to give, say, and show us more; we dismiss it as rumor. But Jesus calls us to a better way. Another dream - an unimagined future. Close the gap between what you hear about and what you see.

Down to earth. Challenging in a way it may feel possible to try something different. Good to hear American church leaders with a balanced and holistic gospel - righteousness and justice.

The story was woven over several generations and some interesting characters. It certainly didn’t resolve all the losses but found light in dark places.

Story
Spanning the years 1900 to 1977, The Covenant of Water is set in Kerala, on South India’s Malabar Coast, and follows three generations of a family that suffers a peculiar affliction: in every generation, at least one person dies by drowning—and in Kerala, water is everywhere. At the turn of the century, a twelve-year-old girl from Kerala’s long-existing Christian community, grieving the death of her father, is sent by boat to her wedding, where she will meet her forty-year-old husband for the first time.

Fascinating story over generations

A real insight into this period and area of India. Very well researched and using the authors fascinating medical knowledge. I keep thinking the story was getting a bit lost then it would turn another corner and uncover another part in f the intricate story. Listening may be slightly harder than reading if not familiar with Indian names as it took a while to work out who everyone was.
However over all another fascinating, eye opening and empathetic story from this author.

I enjoyed the characters in this series of books and that this book followed in immediately from book1. Although one may feel the outcome was predictable there were many unexpected twists and turns which kept me reading. It was good for once to see integrity win over greed and self centredness.

This story of faith through generations tested by various tragedies was inspiring. Some parts were very simplistic but in general the characters were well drawn and the story had an interesting ending.
